  • Time to start over

    Hi all.
Well, Ive been evaluating everything Ive been eating and doing for the last 3 weeks. I think I need to start over from the beginning. I know Ive posted about my weight not moving already, but I think it should have moved somewhat by now??? As far as the food Im eating, Im quite sure Im eating too much cheese. I also find myself dipping into the low carb peanut butter a couple of times per day. And definitely not enough veggies. Geeeeez. If any of you have any ideas, that would be great. I am drinking tons of water, and Ive turned my 2 cups of coffee into 1 cup of coffee...and Im using the low carb milk instead of creamer in that cup. Im doing 25-30 min of cardio every other day or so. I just dont feel my clothes fitting any diffrently, and as I said, the scale hasnt moved since day 4.
    Sigh.

    Re: Time to start over

    Robyn,

    Yay on the 7#

You have done 3 weeks of induction? Do you have the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book?

Peanutbutter and low carb milk are not on the induction food list that you should be eating from. I dont think with what you have listed that you are staying under the 20 carbs per day limit of legal induction foods.

You should be getting most of your carbs from the veggies.

Why dont you post a days menu and let someone look at it and see exactly how you are eating.

      Thanks Terry.
Yes, I have the book. I know low carb milk is not on the induction list, but since cream has 1 gram of carbs in 2 tablespoons, and low carb milk has 3 grams of carbs per CUP, I thought I was doing a good thing???? And you are totally right about the peanut butter. I just love it. Alot. lol. Ive also had a couple of Atkins bars. They say on the package that they are ok for induction, but Im starting to think thats not exactly right. Well....I can start RIGHT NOW by doing the right thing, I suppose. Thanks sooooo much.

        Re: Time to start over

Ok. As a person who generally drinks an enormous cup of hot milk in the morning flavored with perhaps 1/4 of a cup of coffee, let me tell you that you need to stop using ANY type of milk and go with the cream. You get used to it. You need the FAT. You don't use that much of it and it's not always about the low carb count.

Now listen. When Dr. Atkins says do something, you do it. When he says DON'T do something, DON'T do it. This means no milk of any kind, no cottage cheese, no yogurt. You may have cream, hard cheeses, cream cheese, sour cream, and that's it. You may not have any nuts or seeds, including peanut butter.

You MUST consume 2 cups of leafy green veggies from the Induction List plus 1 cup of other veggies from the Other list. OR 3 cups of leafy green veggies.

You must NOT have any shakes, bars, low carb products that are packaged. I do not care if God himself comes down and speaks to you and tells you that something in a package is ok to eat. Don't do it.

You find yourself dipping into peanut butter? Then you need to have some snacks prepared and put in little baggies or tiny tupperware containers. 12 olives. Some artichoke hearts. A flax cracker that you can top with cheese. Do NOT let yourself get into the position of not having an alternative when you crave something.

Make a plan to eat those veggies starting sometime in mid-morning and finishing by dinner. It's easy to do. Get those 3 cups in no matter WHAT.

Oh, and exercising 25-30 min every day or SO? Every day. Do it every day. You can skip 1 or 2 days to make it five out of seven days, but do it in advance, not because you don't feel like it one day.

<shaking finger at you> YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!

Thanks all of you. I know you're right. I am re-reading the book also. The next week will be a little tougher, being on vacation, I wont be able to go to the gym. But I can still make good eating choices, right? Im going to try to hit the treadmill for 30 min tonight after hubby gets home.

            Thanks again.

You go, girl! If you can't go to the gym while on vacation, then park farther away from things than you normally do, walk instead of ride, and generally KEEP MOVING!

                Re: Time to start over

I think I joined at the right time!

I have been on extended induction since Feb. and the past 2 wks I have been finding myself craving things again. My mom got me turned on to Almonds last month and its been downhill since then. I was thinking of stopping Atkins for awhile...well. that lasted a day or so because I know if I do I will be more of a mess when I pick up the pieces. I am only 20 or so lbs from my goal...I have lost 68 or so lbs since I began my journey in 2003.

Thanks for the terrific advice..I realize now I need to pick up my Atkins book AGAIN and reread the Induction section and get back on my horse and start plugging my way thru one day at a time. I plan to give extended Induction another GOOD 2 wks of losing and then I will move on to OWL...I think I am just getting bored and need to a variety but FIRST I need to get back into Ketosis since I have been out of it for the past 2 wks. I know Atkins works when you do the plan as he wrote it...just sometimes life gets in the way as a distraction and then you get mucked up until you can see straight again.

                Hugs, Mel

                  Re: Time to start over

I truly believe that extended induction is a tool for those with 100+lbs. to lose. Or for that person who feels out of control and needs to get back into ketosis. Those with 30-40lbs. to lose will probably not find the results of extended induction they are looking for. If you follow the plan as it is intended by the book, you will have results. Some may be slower than others but so many people stay on induction un-necessarliy. Just my humble opinion.

Also adding weight training to your exercise plan will provide wonderful results.
