  • why is it so hard???

for fast food places to do this??

I'm at the drive through... at Dairy Queen

'could i have sausage, egg, and cheese without the biscuit?'

the lady says 'you want a sausage egg and grits plate?'

me ' no.. .just sausage egg and cheese.. without the biscuit... just stick it in a cup'

lady ' uh... hold on a minute'...

    she never came back...

I was going to drive off... lol... but there's this curb with bushes... so I was stuck in the line...

when I pulled up to the window... she literally glared at me... slung the bag out the window... and said "$1.90"

that's it... not thank you.. have a nice day.... nothing.....

I wish there was a place like Krystal that HAS the low carb bowls already near me....

anybody else catch flack with making 'special' requests?

Re: why is it so hard???

I think that automation and technology have made people so lazy that asking them to change a standard order, or even having some people count change has become complicated.

So when you go and try to ask for anything unusual for an employee in the service industry, chances are, it'll get screwed up, or you'll be met with great resistance.

Try paying $1.01 when the tab was $.96 (to get rid of an extra penny and use a dollar bill) and see the cashier go nuts sometimes. There are times they have to use their heads to compute what they owe as change. The horror.

I know that Sonic Drive-In generally had problems with me. They would break my burger in half and serve it in a hot dog box! That was hilarious, albeit incredibly tricky to maneuver.

Believe it or not...it happens frequently. I like to take the number down that they have posted in the window (If problems call...) and call. They do act on it. My son was a corp manager for Hardees and he said, they investigate all complaints.
There are those people who can't figure out how to throw out the bun. It caueses them too much stress I guess. They usually tell me, "mam, we are going to have to still charge you for the bun". I don't care, just let me have my food.
Hardees and Burger King are the best as far as that type of service. They even advertise..."do it your way"

OP: Dude, I haven't done fast food yet, but I guarantee I'll get the same results! Our local McD's once gave me a sausage biscuit with a ROACH on it. I bit down, saw the roach, FREAKED. Called them when I got to school (was teaching at the time). They said "Well, you have to expect a bug sometimes in your fast food." KID YOU NOT! We *obviously* don't eat there anymore!

Last week I purchased a burger at Burger King for $1.58. The counter girl took my $2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register. I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried.

Why do I tell you this?

Re: why is it so hard???

OMG! the roach story... yuk... I believe I'd have complained to a district manager or something....
half the time, I order the biscuit... like sausage and egg.. (no cheese coz it sticks to the bread)... and then trash the biscuit.. (or take it home to my dog)...

Burger king is here... but compared to Dairy Queen, their sausage.. and egg is just nasty.. it's a rubbery patty of some kind.. DQ is the kind of food I'd cook at home... a really nice sausage patty....

I guess I'll just go back to ordering the biscuit.. and trash the bread..

there IS a Hardees that is possible for me to go by in the AM... but they're almost as bad about making changes... that low carb breakfast bowl... I don't like the cheese.. and the bacon crumbles.. (they feel/taste like baconbits.. the fake ones in the can)...

sometimes even if I say low-carb... I dig in .. and there's the biscuit and gravy...

I'm not hungry when I first wake up.. so I don't cook... but I have ALMOST an hour commute... so by the time I almost get to work.. it's about 2 hours since I woke up.. and I'm ready to eat... I just with these places would cooperate

Re: why is it so hard???

Oh now, please don't make fun of us mathematically challenged people! I'm 42 and I can still almost be reduced to tears when someone pulls out 7 cents after I've already rung in the payment!!
But ask me to spell something and I've got the market cornered!
Some of us out there just aren't wired very well for numbers, so I feel for that poor little girl behind the till!

Re: the no biscuit episode, make sure you call and talk to a manager! The world has to know that we are out there and that we aren't going away anytime soon, so you'll make life easier for yourself and the other low-carbers who want to eat out.
Managers want and need to know when their staff is being rude to people, and staff members need to at least learn manners. A polite "Just one moment, please!" and then "What the heck does this woman want??!!!" in the privacy of the kitchen amongst the other staff is perfectly fine...lol, but they need to learn to present a good face to the public.

It's like that episode of Friends where either Monica or Rachel looks at Phoebe and says "Remember how we talked about saying it in your head first and then talking?"

Where has the customer service gone?? I tell you between swiping my own card and bagging my own groceries and the attitude like they are doing us the favor to let us spend our hard earned money at their establishment I am really starting to get a bit cranky some days!!!

Re: why is it so hard???

LOL... some days I'm more than a 'bit' cranky....

and moochie... your idea inspired me... I checked out DQ, found the store (you can actually comment about specific stores)... and I didn't realize that DQ is a nationwide thing...

                    anyway... here's what I wrote:

"Thanks for taking the time to fix me a sausage egg and cheese with no biscuit. I know DQ doesn't have a 'low carb bowl' like Hardees or Krystal, but your food is simply SUPERIOR to some other places... so I choose DQ often.
I know the lady was confused at my request at first, but there's more Low Carbers around than you realize....
it's not a big deal to stick it in a bowl instead of a biscuit.... and maybe if that was made available more easily... you'd gain tons of low carb customers!
(I've lost over 30 pounds in 4 months going low carb and have about 30 more to lose..)
thanks a bunch! and the sausage egg and cheese in the box this morning was EXCELLENT!!!

That's a great e-mail! I'm noticing more and more restaurants offering at least a couple low-carb meals now which makes me very happy.

Just curious. What is so hard about taking the biscuit out of the bun yourself?

the biscuit out of the bun? lol... but i do understand what you mean...

and as I said earlier... I DO that often.. with just sausage and egg... but I wanted CHEESE... and cheese sticks to the biscuit... so then you have to scrape off the cheese to get rid of the soft part of biscuit stuck to it...

the other is.... so then I'm sitting at my desk with a sausage patty and egg in my hand... eating with a fork off a piece of paper... YUK.....I like it in a little container that I can eat from, then trash...

the other is this... it's CHEAPER (and that's not a big consideration....but the cheese not being stuck to break is)

they put gravy in a styrofoam container.... it shouldn't be a big deal to chunk the egg, sausage and cheese in one if I want them to... and they did.....

or the inevitable temptation to actually TASTE the brown crispy bottom of the biscuit... or worse.. the lady at the window asks.. you want jelly with that? (the temptation to take the meat/egg out.. then stuff the leftover biscuit with jelly.. (I used to do that a LOT.. pre-atkins)
