Re: Week 3: no weight loss, no inches lost

I actually eat plenty - and more than a lot of people I know. I do not go by volume measurements, I go by weight measurements. I find it to be much more accurate and it allows me to eat MORE. If you're drinking all the water you should be (appetite suppression), you're exercising like you should be (appetite suppression), eating like you should be (appetite suppression), it doesn't take as much food to feed your body what it needs.

Eating until your full is over-eating by definition. Skinny people don't eat until they're full. They eat until they're not hungry anymore and that's why they're skinny and we're not. LOL

Gahh. It'd be helpful if I could think more than one thought in a row. LOL Sorry!

I don't think you're being a pain at all! I love these types of discussions. I really think they helps us all learn something new and help us stand back and take a look at things that will help us all be more successful.

I do believe, however, that the little details are the parts that count. Those details can be the difference between a 1500 calorie day and a 2500 calorie day. Dr. Atkins said we didn't have to count calories (if we eat to satisfy ourselves - not until we're full) - but he never said calories don't count!

Frustrated? Yes, very! A lump in my throat? Nope!

1/2 of Atkins is about losing weight. The other half is about eventually getting to the point where you are eating 6-8 servings of veggies a day, lots of protein, and healthy carbs such as the veggies, whole grains, fruits. This half is where the HEALTH comes into the picture. The longevity kind of health. The blood workup good news kind of health.
My cholesterol has always been good whether I am eating low carb or not. My triglycerides have been high when I'm not following a low carb WOE EXCEPT when I had my blood work done this past January after being off of Atkins for several months. My cholesterol actually went down further, my triglycerides were good, and my "bad" cholesterol was about as low as my doctor has ever seen.

Physically, I feel like my blood sugar is stable, and I don't have those hunger swings throughout the day. When I get hungry, I am not starved and shakey. That is a good thing.

        Yes, I use a high fat dressing. I don't do low-fat.

If I eat more fat, am I not taking in more calories?

I am limited in what kind of exercise I can do due to a major operation I had several years ago. I can swim, walk, ride a bike (but that is hard on my knees), and that's about it! I cannot lift weights or do anything strenuous.

By the way, what DO you want to eat?
I like pasta and Mexican food, desserts made with real sugar (but not too much), and potatoes. I also enjoy fresh baked breads.

Me too. I just hated the big butt that came with them! LOL

You'd be amazed at the workouts that are available right now for people with limitations. I'd suggest checking out collagevideo.com and taking a look at "seated workouts". You'll find quite a few!

Ok, Brook. I'm about to be a PAIN in the butt. If I exercise and burn more calories than I take in, could I not eat these things and still lose weight??

I agree with the advice you've been given. Maybe Atkins isn't for you. Only you can decide that. If you want to keep trying I would suggest doing a clean, by the book straight two weeks of induction. Measure everything religiously. Make sure you're doing 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs. Drink your water, exercise and take your supplements. Don't eat anything off the acceptable food list, like pecans. Post your exact menu's in the 'review my menu' forum. Then re-evaluate. Lots of people here to support you.

Nutri-- you CAN, but I can guarantee you'll be MORE hungry eating high glycemic foods than were you to eat a higher-fat diet.

And you still have to exercise. Everyday.

We all want you to succeed. But you have to weant this for yourself!!!

Re: Week 3: no weight loss, no inches lost

                  Agreed, Isabeau!!

Nutri- LOL. Nope. You're still not a pain.

Could you lose weight eating 1000 calories worth of Mexican Food, pasta, bread, and desserts made with real sugar? ABSOLUTELY.

Would you be as healthy? Likely not.
Would you be back on the blood sugar roller coaster? Absolutely.
Would you experience the mood swings that come with those cravings? Absolutely.
Would you find it just as easy, if not easier, to wander off track? Well, I don't know. I know that *I* did/do because of the previous 3 points.

I think giving the whole program...and I mean the *whole* program a solid two weeks with no tweaks, no exceptions, and an honesty in journaling everything you put in your mouth (what/how much/when) typically reserved for Confessional is truly giving the plan a fair shake to see what it's all about.

I just want the plan to be given a real, fair shake - and I want you to give yourself and the plan a real, fair shake. Slips, not taking your supplements, not drinking your water, eating things that aren't on plan for the stage you're in, not exercising - these things aren't giving the plan or yourself a fair shake. Atkins may not be for you, and that's okay! It's not our intention or ambition to bring you to the "low-carb side of the force"

And for pete's sake - keep askin' or talkin' your way through it. Doing that doesn't make you a pain at all. It makes you a force to be reckoned with - and around here, you're in good company

                  ~Brook

Re: Week 3: no weight loss, no inches lost

You are most certainly NOT a pain in the butt! You are voicing what many people who are in a stall are thinking. You are expressing your feelings, which is so much better than stuffing them down with a plate of fettucini alfredo!

I agree with everyone that you should give it a two-week clean induction. BUT, I have the following caveats:

                    1. From the menu you posted, I don't think anyone can infer that you are eating the wrong foods or adding in stray carbs. So I don't want you to get the impression that I think you are mistaken about your food intake.

                    2. You MUST use fitday.com. It's free! It's easy! And it will keep track of all those percentages and numbers for you!

                    3. You have to exercise 5 out of 7 days. Do a water aerobics class. Walk a treadmill. Use the exercise bike. DEFINATELY try to join a gym. Even if you just ask for a 2-week trial membership! It's worth it!

                    4. Don't weigh during the 2 weeks. Give the scale to a neighbor. THrow it in the trash. Have your hubby hide it. Whatever it takes to keep you off the scale for those 2 weeks.

If, at the end of 2 weeks, you're still stuck, then you can cheerfully decide to try something else, without ever questioning whether if you'd just tried harder, Atkins would have worked.

                    Hugs to you!

Re: Week 3: no weight loss, no inches lost

The big difference between doing Atkins and watching your calories and doing some other non-reduced carbs diet and watching your calories is hunger.

1000 calories of Atkins low carb foods will leave you feeling a lot fulller than 1000 caloires of carbs. Carbs make you hungry.
