maybe this belongs some other place.. but I want something that WORKS!!!

How can you peel boiled eggs without messing them up?

    I've tried a few things...

salt in the water... a little.. a lot..

let eggs get room temp first...

let eggs cool down in running cold water

let eggs cool down in the pot..

HELP ME!! I waste more than I'm able to EAT!

(my dogs don't complain... but still)

    Re: peeling eggs

I have had this problem also. I have found that the fresher the eggs, the easier to peel. I also boil my eggs longer than most - like 10 - 15 minutes. They peel easier that way.

        Re: peeling eggs

I don't usually have a problem. I start with cold water, put the eggs in and start them boiling. When the water starts to boil, turn it down slightly so they kind of simmer - I usually cook them for about 10 minutes. Then I fill the pot with cold running water and let it run for a bit. You can turn the water off to be more environmentally friendly, but make sure the water stays pretty cold. Once they've cooled for a couple of minutes I peel them right away. My friend suggested bashing them on the bottom cuz there's an air bubble there. I never knew that, but I've found that this works better than cracking them on the sides or the top.

The only times that my eggs weren't peelable were when I cooked them and then didn't get to peeling them for a while. Cooking, cooling and peeling all within a short time seems to work best for me. Oh, and I've used fresh eggs and not so fresh eggs, but for me it's the time between cooking and peeling that seems to make the difference.

          Buy one of these

          http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B00004R944

I have a similar one, it comes with a little pin thingy that you poke a hole in the egg with before you cook it, they come out perfectly every single time and they are a breeze to peel, you just tap the top of the egg on the counter where the air bubble is (its always on the top because you cook the egg sitting upright so its easy to find) and the shell comes off easily w/ the membrane attached. I wouldn't give my egg cooker up for anything!

I have the Cuisineart version and love it. It also does poached eggs. I've never had a problem with the shells not peeling off either.

I start with cold water...put the eggs in...let them boil for like 20 minutes and then put them in a bowl of cold water...stick it in the fridge...when they're nice and cold I smack them gently & repeatedly on the counter so they're cracked all over and use a spoon to get the shell off. I've always done it that way and it works great for me!

mmmmm...deviled eggs...I just may have to make some now!

                  Re: peeling eggs

I use an boiled egg cooker too - so easy and can be left alone till it beeps that it is ready. When done I put them in a bowl under running cold water for a while then tap them on the work surface and roll them over and over a few times while pressing doen on them which seems to loosen the shell and membrane.

                    Re: peeling eggs

I boil my eggs for about 3 minutes then take the pot off the stove and give each egg a little tap with a spoon, or I'll lift it up and let it drop back in so that the shell cracks. It is my firm belief ( ) that water enters into the eggshell and loosens it.

And I thought it was the fresher the egg the harder it is to peel? That's what I've always heard.

                        What always works for me:

Add eggs straight from the carton to solidly boiling eater. Boil for 20 minutes. Pour out hot water and immediately add cold water with ice. I have NEVER had trouble peeling a hard-boiled egg.

Shock those little suckers right outta their shells.

Mine go straight from the fridge to the water.

I lower them carefully into the water with a slotted spoon so they don't bounce. Maybe one or two break because of temperature differences, but it's not much.

Isn't it funny how everyone has different techniques?

I bring mine to a boil, boil for 12 minutes, and then put in an ice bath until cold. Tap on the wide and (like my husband does to me *snort*) then roll around to crack the shell all over. Peel it under running water.

I've never tried the spoon, I bet that works well!
