  • Being bad never tasted so good

I started atkins around Jan 2005. About 3 weeks ago I started by eating some honey roasted peanuts. Then a salad with breadsticks. Then sandwiches and pizza and chocolate bars.

I've missed carbs so much, I'm sure you all have too. I forgot how much I liked them, a bit too much I guess. Right now I'm enjoying a hero sandwich and a nesquik chocolate milk. YUM. This beats all that beef and chicken and veggies I've been eating for the past 9 months. This is the good life, or at least that's the illusion.

As much as I LOVE my current WOE, I know it has to change. I will start Friday or maybe over the weekend. There is a work social event tomorrow night with an open bar.

While being bad I realized just how much I HATE THIS STUPID DIET, but it did work for me and I would like to lose some weight. Last time I didn't really do the OWL phases, I just did my own screwed up version of extended induction where I let myself eat nuts and drink alcohol.

This time I want to do it right, because I don't want to hate the diet. If I do it right, I can start to eat good food again which is something I really miss.

I don't look forward to the induction flu. I don't look forward to dried out hamburgers. I don't look forward to preparing all my meals after working all day and going to school all night, but this is what must be done.

I do look forward to having more energy and not fighting fatigue in class. I do look forward to a more healthy lifestyle. I do look forward to looking great.

I hope you do do this correctly this time around. Too many people make the mistake you did and think Induction is the entire Atkins Diet.

When you do OWL properly, you will be eating more than meat and the Induction veggies. You will be able to eat fruit, nuts, starchy veggies, legumes and whole grains. Today for lunch I had potatoes, which is totally allowable for my phase of this diet.

I love my Atkins diet: yogurt with fresh fruit or sugarless fruit jam for breakfast, a nice chef's salad for lunch or a hearty soup with whole grain crackers or a sandwich wrap, for dinner more veggies (starchy and Induction type), some protein and of course fruit for dessert. I don't feel deprived at all that I'm eating healthy, wholesome foods without artificial colors, flavors, high fructose corn syrup, and preservatives.

So I hope you follow Atkins properly and you too will be able to eat wholesome, healthful foods.

Well, my biggest challange will be no caffeine and alcohol. I do not know if I can do that. I'm done with work (9-5) but now I have a 2.5 hour class that starts at 6:15. Too hard to stay awake with this schedule.

I can say with 100% certainty that I feel much more tired with all these carbs that I did when I was doing my own low carb thing. I could barely get out of bed this morning.

LOL Rhuobe! You are so justifying just like any junkie does. I love you, man.

I know you are burned out on induction, so definitely just hop on long enough to get back into ketosis and then I'd recommend you either do the full 2 weeks, or just get yourself right into the OWL phases.

I used to do only extended induction, but, man, there's only so much fat I can handle eating at any one given time. And being able to add in some of the things I'd missed, such as blueberries and yogurt has been AWESOME!

So don't get hung up in dry hamburgers and all you've come to hate about this way of eating. Look at the menus section, check out the huge variety of things you can eat, and when you get back into ketosis, start slowly climbing the ladder rungs.

And if I see you playing with that Hostess Ding Dong again, I'll smack you upside your head.

Actually it was a hostess cupcake - no wait, 2 cupcakes

While these foods have provided me with a sort of high, they definatly make me feel crappy about 20-30 mins after I eat them which will hopefully be reason enough to stop.

Now time for my exercize (walking 3/4 of a mile to school)

I'm definatly going to use the board more this time around, actually I was suprised how much changed since I was last here.

Welcome back and slowly step away from the cupcakes...

You may hate everything about this WOE now but wait until you start feeling so much better....and you will. It will take some sacrificing and hard work but all that will be so worth it in the end.

You made a great first step by coming here. Stick around this time.

That's a great sentence. The illusion. The one that's beaten into our noggins until we relent that somehow we're depriving ourselves from eating carb laden sugar filled ka ka when actually we break free of the addiction and find ourselves on a nice healthy wholefood (and very satisfying) way of life. Don't let the diabetic doctors, cardiologists and undertakers here this though because they fear us! Lol! Once you detox and your mind clears and your body suddenly feels like it's been given a nitrous tank boost you won't miss that food. Oh sure, I won't lie...it tastes good. But so does antifreeze and I'm not drinkin' that! Good for you for realizing what you need to do! And as you know we're here for you!

Check my journal...whatta day...I think antifreeze tastes good...animals drink it sadly. I wouldn't drink it or taste it...no way...just like I wouldn't eat a twinkie or donut...if I'm going to eat that way I may as well drink Windex for all the good it does me.

OK. We went away from Ding-Dongs and veered dangerously into swilling antifreeze.

I say we all go play some pool down at the tavern and drink some water.

This is so tough. This morning I had a bagel w/ honey pecan cream cheese. I never would have known how good it is if I didn't break from Atkins.

If I follow Atkins to the tee, will I ever be able to eat something like this again? (methinks not )

Today is my last day, or at least that's the plan. No chocolate or sugar today, just bagels and rice (boss taking us out for sushi )

Yes, you would, when you are in your Maintenance phase. The longer you procrastinate about starting the diet and losing the weight, the longer it will take you to get to Maintenance.
