  • What is your favorite Protein Powder?

I need to go shopping and pick some up, and I'd like to pick up both vanilla and chocolate. It's been a really long time since I bought any, so I'd appreciate suggestions.

    TIA!

Isopure Zero Carb Whey Protein - lots of great flavors, although Strawberries & Cream is my old standby. 'Tis the best.

I order mine on line from http://www.allthewhey.com/ that way I control what is in mine.
Designer whey was being touted last yr as the better tasting one of the over the counter stuff when Bren's doughnut recipe was being tested.

Yeah, if you want to cook with the stuff that is a different powder altogether. Bob's Red Mill has a pretty decent protein powder for cooking with - a bit expensive though.

Why can't you cook with the Isopure, Kent?

          Thanks for the replies!

you can cook with any protein but the texture and taste is different depending on what you used. There is now wheat protein isolate for cooking and it does a nice flour like thing better then the others do. If you want it in bulk then go with your discount and use Honeyvillegrains

For cooking, you want something unflavoured in my opinion. Trying to match the chemical flavorings to your ingredients is a nightmare. Isopure only comes in flavored options and is really only made for drinking. (yum)

you can buy unflavored whey protein isolate from all the whey Kent
Most cook book authors tell you to use vanilia flavored in sweet cooking and unflovored in savory cooking

Yep. A lot of recipes call for either vanilla or chocolate whey protein powder.

I have some whey protein isolate (8000? if I remember right) coming. Will that do if I add cocoa to it for chocolate?

well most already made recipes are also counting on the swetners in those flavored mixes too so you will need to use someof your bottle and maybe another type for the blended effect. Scott123 has a spread sheet on the blending amounts of each if you PM him you can have it.

Oh wait 8000 is the wheat protein isolate and you will be using it mostly for bread stuff. Do you really want choclate bread? I haven't seen and dessert recipes using it but I guess you could.

get somew cholcolate flavored one if you can afford another bottle but know that whey is sort of rubbery and dry in goodies so under bake it a bit and the slight wetness with make up for the dry texture of whey PP making it appear to be fudgey

you can just mix in a bowl 1/4 cup flax meal, with one scoop of chocolate WPP, 2T cream or oil. I used EVOO. then gentley add water slowly to the mix till you got about 1/2 cup added. stir to activate the flax then nuke about 90-120 seconds till the top is set and looks like bread. you might need to add some of your bottle* for sweetness but it will come out cake like on top and fudgey underneath. if you are OWLing you can add tosted nuts to the mix. if you use more cream and less water it gets more brownie like.

activated flax will be sort of like egg whites you will see the batter change when they get activated.

*the Bottle refers to Brook"s little bottle of liquid Splenda
