  • Protein: too much?

Ok, here we go, time to get 'er rollin'....I know that the excess protein is turned into Glycogen by the liver with the abscence of adequate carbs which is what we don't want...correct? eehhh?? LOL If you can help here, how much protein is too much? I seem to think that I have over the years "damaged" myself as far as carb metabolizing goes and find that unless I eat hardly anything and starv in the induction phase for several weeks that weight will NOT move hardly anymore. Some say it is my age and lack of exercise???? I think maybe I'm overdoing the meats and proteins thing? I know that back in the body building days we ate a tremendous amount of chicken, tuna ,and meat....for starters, 2 whole chickes a day, large steaks and about a dozen raw eggs in shakes of protein. Allthough we worked out hours on end every day, maybe it was a necessary diet back then for muscle growth? I think I gotta stop the cheese in this induction or maybe the Ceasars? is this induction thing this touchy for some? hmmmmm?

65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs is what you're aiming for.

Is this the part where I throw you around?

I agree with wannabe. Use fitday.com, because it calculates those percentages for you, and it's free.

well on Atkins with the correct amount of fat in your diet you will have appetite suppression so you will not be feeding your hunger that much food to satisfy it.

If you have damaged your metabolism for fat burning don't worry Dr Atkins adressed that in DANDR. did you read your book yet? The cure is longer time spent eating induction.

Remember when you eat you eat some carbs some protein and some fat and you stop eatting when your appetite is satisfied. Not your plate empty, your stomach full, nor all the budgeted foods in your menu eatten. Some days it may take a whole chicken and saladand other it will take a wing or two with a few bites of salad.
Atkins is going to blow your mind.

read your book follow the rules read our indcution forum stickies and have at it. In as little as 15 days you are going tobe posting a yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I lost .. topic

Iv'e read the book and go thru it quite frequently I guess I gotta figure how much protein is in a chicken breast to be sure huh? hmmmm? so 65%, 30%, and 5% is what we will eat as a balanced diet or..... can we just eat a piece of chicken on the way to work and later for lunch eat the greens for carbs then two teaspoons of mayo the mens way around 9pm all by itself? yuk! Just kiddin' I was just setting an example as to eating the groups as seperate times.

For instance, today I missed breakfast and for lunch I had shrimp (15) and for dinner I will eat another ceasar salad...wrong? right? am I difficult? go ahead throw me around the room hahaah!

                  I'll think about it.

In the meantime, watch skipping meals because it wreaky holy havok on your blood sugar. You also want to make sure you space the carbs during the day to stop what might otherwise be a glycemic rush to your bloodstream. As far as the percentages go, those are the guidelines to ensure you're not overdoing the fat, protein or carbs. A lot of people don't use fitday and do just fine. But for us precise borg types, quantifiable measurements are a thing of beauty.

                    Re: Protein: too much?

yep you are wrong some carbs some protein and some fat every time. The actual percents came for the Akins site back when Dr tkins was alive ause too high protein and too low fat was a realative term open to much personel speculation by all.

Think of yourself as a fine engine you will work best on the grade of fuel you are designed to run being in your fuel take all the time not for only a few hours a day. you wouldn't run your prize car ondisel if it was a gas car and if it was premium gas you wouldn' run it on regular would you? will if you didyou'd know why you shouldn't.

                    Happy low carbing.

No slams on the posting numbers I have garnered. I use them for quality reasons. Like throwing men around the board.

You want a menu? Do you have a 2002 version of the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution? If not, I'd skeedaddle over to Amazon.com and buy one, used. It's worth the extremely low amount you'll pay for it. It includes menus. For other ideas, check out our menus forum under the main part of the board. It's where people go to get menus checked by others, and there are some excellent ideas there. You can find recipes a little lower down on the board.

And they are quite the quality to say the least I must say to U Cleo....You've offered many a help to many in need and the archives to boot..like many here I may add actually. I'm used to my karting forums (I race high power go-karts) and the highest poster is only 2000 at best and only one at that! I think there is 10 over 1000posts. No slam intended at all, now, how many keyboards? LOL
