  • What I learned the hard way today.... :(

I am never, never going to eat a whole package of sorbitol-sweetened gummi bears again. Apart from the horribly obvious lower digestion tract thingy, I can't eat because I have a very bad case of indigestion.
We all have to learn something the hard way, and it was my turn today.

Pretty nasty, huh! Arrggh, and you know what else, just staying away from low carb junk food will help you get rid of those cravings completely.

It's hard for a while, but once it's out of your system, you just don't think about sweets anymore!

    Hope you feeling better!

Not a lot. I did manage to eat a chicken leg, but it took me a couple of hours to get it down. The good part is that to get my mind off my situation, I made a pumpkin cheesecake - Haven't tasted it yet, but the mix was definitely yummy!!

I'm glad you're feeling better. Are you eating sweet (splenda) treats (cheesecake) everyday?

Welll, it all started out when I had mistakenly incorporated the 3g Atkins pancakes into my induction. I have shelved them for the time being, but I was finding that I was at a loss to find something sweet and filling to take their place. I haven't had any cheesecake yet; it took me a couple of days to get the ingredients. Weirdly, several stores were out of pure pumpkin!! Must be the Halloween thing because our Thanksgiving was over weeks ago. Today is day 11 on induction. I've lost about 6-8 pounds and have about 15-20 to go. I haven't decided whether I'm going to stay on induction after day 14, but the closer it gets, the more I think I will.

Who knew gummi bears could be so evil! It's funny how some of that stuff won't have any effect and others just make you want to die. Hope you feel better!

Those gummy bears are dangerous. The one and only time I ate them was at a movie theatre, and within 20 minutes of eating them, my stomach started to make noises I have never heard before, cramps and indigestion followed for hours after. Not worth the short term fix, and I won't do that again!

Yep, that's pretty much what my experience was - plus the numerous trips to the bathroom!!

I learned the hard way too a long time ago w/ the Evil SF Jelly Belly Beans, I didn't even eat what they said was one serving and I thought I was gonna end up in the hospital!

                      Morning Castoridae,

You've had great success on your Induction!!

But, if you are still craving the sweets or are endulging on a daily basis, you may want to just completely drop any sweets and get that sugar monster (or splenda monster) off your back.

                      Take care!

Re: What I learned the hard way today....

I agree with Shelly...something is going on to keep you craving the sweets. Most of your posts here have been concerning sweets. You mentioned Atkins pancake mix and such...I'm thinking that perhaps you didn't do what we call a 'by the book clean Induction' period and that's why your body is still craving sweets.
                        Give this a read:
                        http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5922

Are you staying within your 3 sweetener a day limit?

Perhaps extend your Induction another week or two, and do them as cleanly as you can to try and get this under control. I was a sweet treat addict, and the best thing I ever did for myself was to get rid of the sugar monster, I swear!

When you crave something sweet...eat an egg...eat a protein/fat snack. Teach your body that if it wants something, it'll get fed, but the days of indulging in whatever craving hit you are over, and things are different now.

Atkins is all about building habits to last a lifetime. Sweets won't be gone forever...there are many Atkins friendly recipes out there that you can make...but a person has to dig down and deal with the core of it all, so that they control the sweets and the sweets stop controlling them.

Re: What I learned the hard way today....

Hmm, Castor, it seems that SOMEBODY warned you about those sugar alcohol sweetened "treats" just yesterday. Most of us here offer advice based on solid knowledge and/or experience. It often pays to listen. By the way, I hope you went ahead and counted the TOTAL carbs in those gummi bears, because if you just counted the "net" carbs, you're only fooling yourself.

I agree with what others have said. You seemed to be preoccupied with how you can satisfy your sweet tooth during induction. The best, most successful, approach is to not try to satisfy it, but to kill it! Try to avoid all sweet foods, even those sweetened solely with Splenda. You'll soon find that those cravings will disappear, and allow you to get on with the real business of losing weight "by the book."

                          Wishing you lots of success!
                          -Chris
