Re: Why am I always hungry?

Excellent, I figured 2big would have some good input/suggestions!

Hope you figure out the reason for the "hungries", Jeudrietr!

Re: Why am I always hungry?

I normally just focus on my food when I eat. I'm eager to feel full and stop - I want to know what it's like. I'm not the type who would eat while watching tv, then wonder why I'm still hungry.

I will make sure that I focus more on it, though, and have absolutely no distractions.

Re: Why am I always hungry?

feeling full and feeling hungry are two different things something we all had to learn so we could be atkins successes. learn what your hunger feels like and eat only until it is satisfied even if you got food on your plate carbs in your budget and room in your beely. Knowing on Atkins you can eat again as soon as you feel hungry should help the wanting. You might also do better with the 6 small meals aday instead of the 3 big ones and snacks.

So again are you hungry when you force yourself to stop or just think you aren't full? those are things Dr Atkins discussed in DANDR when he said some of us would need to relearn what hunger really was.

Also are you in ketosis? and what is your metabolic resistance level? if it was high you might need to eat your Atkins at a higher fat level to get the ketosi appetite suppression sensations started.

See I told you what you were really expressing would get different answers in my first post.

Re: Why am I always hungry?

Sorry. I'm fully aware of the difference between full and not hungry. I'm just used to using them interchangeably. This has nothing to do with being full. I am always hungry. I always feel like I need to eat. I don't want to feel full and bloated, that's icky. I just don't want to be hungry.

I thought I was having 4 meals a day.. I don't have any time to sit down and have more meals. I work 11 hours a day.

I'd assume I am in ketosis. I have not tested.

I haven't a clue about the Metabolic Resistance Level.

I have had the same sensation that I am constantly hungry even after a big meal I do not have it when I am in ketosis. Now Wendy's chicken breast is seaoned might be hidden carbs also that is a sweet sauce they put on it hope you don't get that. Maybe you ought to buy some ketone test strips I get 50 at Walgreens for $10.00 their brand I do not know what you have by you.

I was thinking the same thing. I watched the movie, "Super Size Me" and it said that McDonald's even has sugar in their salads. Maybe there is hidden sugar in your food at Wendy's. Would it be possible to bring cooked chicken from home and see if that helps any?

I appreciate all of these suggestions, although many people seem to have missed the true point of the board.

Also, It's hard to tell if Wendy's grilled chicken contains sugar, since the nutritional sheet gives the nutritional facts for the sandwich as a whole, including Honey Mustard Sauce. I know the salads don't contain sugar. We cut the lettuce from fresh every morning; along with the tomatoes and cucumbers. I just have my salad with romaine lettuce and occasionally add in the grilled chicken. With a lot of food allergies, I don't have many more options.

Put it this way. Cooked chicken doesn't have carbs per the USDA. So, if this grilled chicken has 5 grams of sugar, then you can appropriately assume that sugar is added sugar.

Also if you go to the Wendy's website (http://www.wendys.com/food/index.jsp?country=US&lang=EN). Click "Complete Nutrition Guide". Then scroll all the way down: it lists the ingredients in their foods.

Sorry, I forgot to add that if you eat sugar it makes you want to eat more or feel hungry even when you are not. It seems that when you are in ketosis that you lose your appetite. If you are still feeling hungry at this point, you may have hidden sugars in something you are eating or are not in ketosis.

These things may not be the case, but are just up for consideration.

Re: Why am I always hungry?

I don't have the proper programs on my computer to read their nutrition guide online. I read it at my store and it stated that the grilled chicken sandwich (as a whole) contained sugar. I assumed that the sugar was from the Honey Mustard Sauce which we use on it.

Does the website break it down into chicken, sauce, and bun?

It is broken down by food item. It doesn't give a carb count, but the list of ingredients does show whether or not there is sugar and other fillers by type of food.

                          Yes. It lists "sandwich components".

Like you, I cannot eat certain foods because I am allergic to them. So, you really need to get a hold of this information somehow because it will save you from alot of grief. Perhaps your public library has a computer you can use to copy this information or get a friend to download it for you?

You might also want to try calling Wendy's Consumer Relations department and request a copy of the nutritional info and the ingredients list. 614-763-3100

Re: Why am I always hungry?

the website breaks it down into every item from buns to condiments. with ingredients in each right down to the preservatives. In the chicken fillet itself their are 2 carbs it contains honey, and sugar along with citric acid and yeast all of which can trigger some folk to think they need more food.

There reason it was important to know what you meant with your choice of words is beacuse many folk talk baout wanting to feel full because of emotional wanting and not hunger. Wanting food on ADBB without hunger is referred to an this site as Cravings.
There are some foods that some folk can't handle I know for myself it is celery and Splenda. those foods no matter what or how much i've easten make me think I need to eat more and more foods. those are cravings not hunger cause I have learned doing my Atkins for over 3 yrs that hunger feels different but when I started i just knew those celery induced feelings had to be hunger cause i wasn't eating any sugar foods to be spiking my blood sugars same with the SPlenda. it was through carefully examining my food diaries I came to realize those Atkins legal overeating binges were triggered by celery and then again by Splenda. You could very easily have a food that for you is making you think you need more food.

Okay since you don't have a clue about metabolic resistnace levels I have to assume you didn't read DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION known as DANDR here cause he discusses it in there in many places.

to make it easy for you you take your needed to lose weight and the amount you lost doing your 14 days of induction by the book when you first started atkins and look in the charts in the chapters after Induction to see what your metabolism is. if you have high resistance cause you lost a small amount for the amount you needed to lose then you will need a higher fat Atkins to get into ketosis and stay there. you will also not be able to have a many net carbs in your Atkins WOE as some one with low resistance will. It is very important for you to know what your carb limit for your metabolism is. SOme folk can't even eat the 20 Dr Atkins choose as the induction limit because of their resistance.
Appetite suppression is a function of deep ketosis Inductees and early OWLers enjoy because they are eating far below thier CCLL.

One big thing I was taught early in my Atkins is if you make a change to your eating make only one change at a time and see if it helps or hurts you. if it hurts undo it and try a different one. You have gotten lots of suggestions for possible reasons for your feeling hungry after you have eatten. Pick the one you think will help you the best and try it and keep records of what you are doing and how you are feeling so you can see objectively if it does help.

I wish you much success figuring out this frustrating for you lack of appetite suppression

2Big makes a very good point. Hunger and cravings are two different things.

Like 2Big, I have Atkins legal foods that trigger cravings, such as tomatoes, eggplant and pork chops(!). You will need to re-examine and review your food diary to see what food(s) is/are the culprit(s).

Re: Why am I always hungry?

I understand that I made a poor choice of words. I understand the differences, though.

I will stop eating Wendy's Grilled Chicken. Are the hamburger patties safe? I also eat the classic double with cheese minus the bun, ketchup and tomato.

I only borrowed the book, so I don't have it readily available to look at the metabolism chart. I think I lost around 10lbs in my first 14 days. It was a rather high number, which surprised me because I know that my metabolism isn't high. I think that not drinking 4 sodas a day was enough for me to lose that 10lbs! I will reread it, though. I know that it's the best $7 I can spend. I frequent this board.

"You could very easily have a food that for you is making you think you need more food."

I always thought of that but wasn't quite sure how to go about finding out what it was. I tend to eat basic foods (chicken, lettuce, eggs) and have gone a while without each of them, I believe, so it must be something big and not some hidden yeast or whatnot. I guess I will go a week without them, one at a time, and see how I feel.

Thank you for all of the advice and suggestions. If there's any more, keep it coming! Y'all rock.
