  • Do you eat alot?

When I was on atkins 4 years ago I lost 35-40lbs but I eat alot of food, either on or off Atkins I eat alot. My husband can eat an 8 ounce steak, salad and call it done. But I can eat double that amount. Im always hungry. On Atkins, I ate tons and tons of meat, the allowable amount of veggies and etc but Im always hungry. Anyone else out there the same? what can I do on induction to keep myself from always being hungry? I just ate a can of tuna, salad and 2 eggs and Im hungry!

Your question is similar to another thread we recently had.

My questions to you are this:

    1. How would you describe your physical signs of being hungry?
    2. How would you describe your physical signs of being "full"?

The other thing too is this....

Fat will help you feel "satisfied" with your meals. So eat alittle fat with your proteins and carbs. "Alittle" can be as little as 1 tablespoon of mayo or olive oil.

Protein is a double-edged sword. On Atkins, about 30% of our total daily calories is from protein. But if you over-eat protein, you don't do yourself any flavors. About 58% of the protein we eat is converted to sugar by our bodies. Any excessive sugar is stored as glycogen and fat.

Are you drinking your water? Water can help with feeling full and keeping cravings at bay. Diet drinks can increase feelings of hunger, as can mints and chewing gum (even SF ones). If you are doing all the above correctly, try to eat many small meals throughout the day instead of a few large ones. Just eat that little, tell yourself time's up until the next one. That may help increase your feelings of fullness.

Yep, I was going to suggest drinking water. Sometimes we think we're hungry but we're really thirsty.

OK - I'm in a similar boat myself. I can out eat just about anyone. I eat until my stomach feels full then I'm satisfied. I used to eat alot even on Atkins but here's how I got around it. I eat half my protein first - then a big salad. All the while I drink a glass of water. If I'm still hungry, then I eat the rest of my steak - drink some more. If I'm STILL hungry, I get a 2nd helping of salad. Granted, doing this my salad intake ends up being a little more than what induction levels will alow but it is low glycemic with very little net carbs involved and I always include a little cheese in my salad to help satiate me. In effect, what this does is allowing you to feel full for a long time by filling up a larger stomach area, but ends up helping to shrink the size of the stomach because the veggies shrink quickly as they hit the digestive liquid and you should be eating quite a bit less after a few days of doing this.

i am concerend about your fat intake.u know what u have to eat 65% fats ,if u are eating 65% i bet u can never be hungry..and try to eat 6 smaller meals

                Re: Do you eat alot?

Again, I think it boils down to what your perception of "hungry" and "full" are. Many of us are fat because we have invested much of our lives overeating. So we have a distorted perception of "hungry" and "full".

If being "full"/"satisfied" to you means, you can feel the weight of the food lying in your stomach after you eat, you might want to re-evaluate that concept. Likewise if being "hungry" to you means you can't feel the weight of food lying in your stomach, you might want to re-evaluate that.

u eat when u are thirsty u dont drink when u are hungry(unless u try to do so) and that is a fact!
i have this thing too,the more i drink the more i am thirsty it has nothing to do with my fat intake ,our body is 60% water and we need he ll lotta more than we think, its just your body which demands u to drink,if u eat more u are in trouble if u drink more u are saved!

                    Re: Do you eat alot?

I had a similar experience when I started. I was a 473 lb eating machine. I was always hungry! The cause - insulin resistence and the high carb roller coaster.

This is part of the reason I went on Atkins - because it curbed that hunger so well. I found the best things to curb hunger was meat with fat on it. Like roast duck - man that is fatty - and delish!

It took a couple of months for the hunger to go down. I doesn't happen in the first 14 days. Dr Atkins advises to eat meat and fat when you are hungry like this (allowable induction types).

I did not watch my porton sizes on induction - I hate to my appetite. But true to form after a while on the program your appetite decreases and so does your calorie intake.

Your appetite will decrease as you lose weight - give yourself the time to get to grips with this way of eating and you'll feel tons better.
