Re: Website for monitoring diet, exercise, and health

Thank you all for filling out the survey. I have now closed it down. We recieved 97 responses, which is much more than I was expecting. I have to write the paper and finish my prototype for the design by Friday. After that, I will post the results of ther survey in this thread.

Sorry, I tried to copy and paste the results, but I couldn't get the formatting right. Here is a link to the results for those interested:

Please note: my server (Globat) is flaky, so if it doesn't load come back later.

Will your site calculate net carbs? Your screenshot showed only total carbs
These are important on Atkins and other lowcarb woe's

Where will you be getting your figures for nutrition from?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

What about carb/fat/proteing percentage at the end of the day?
            this is important too!
Is your web site will be listing only the calorie amount of each food or carb amount too?

I should make the caveat that the program is not complete. It would take much more development effort in order to get all of the functionality working.

To answer your question, then % at the end of the day would be easy to show through the interface. The concept is that you can view information about the entire day, one meal, and one component of a meal. In addition, there is another page that lets you view long-term trends.

We would have to interview many more potential users to understand all of the potentials needs for things like "net carbs". That said, these things are easy for a computer to do, which is the beauty of using a computer to handle it for you.

The USDA has a free database that it updates regularly. It has an enormous amount of information about many types of food, much more than anyone would need. Should we develop the website further, we would start with that database.

For those of your who participated, my project was accepted to the conference. I specifically mentioned Atkin's Diet BB in the paper. It is titled,
"My Health, My Life: A Web-Based Health Monitoring Application." It was published in the conference proceedings by ACM.
