Re: The Great Debate: Calories in Calories Out

LC Dave if folk had normal appetites they wouldn't be superheavy weights. Part of doing Atkins is to learn what hunger feels like and to respond only to it and to shut off our eating when hunger is satisfied.

just the simple act of eating while distracted can keep our brains from signalling I've eatten enough now thank you bcause it didn't register any food intake and didn't even begin the flow of chemicals needed to tell the rest of the body food is coming in so they would send out signals and we'd know our hunger is being satisfied. I know folk can rememebr watching TV with a bag or box of food and mindlessly munching away and stopping only cause the container was empty. Inducttee even do it with legal foods like porkrinds.
We have to listen and learn and practice over and over during our OWL and premaintenance days so when we arrive at goal we are not like the meal in a can dieters who don't know how to eat to satisfy hunger (what that feels like) and stop. they just only know have a can or bar and stop. In order to stay at our goal weights and be the 1 out of 10 losers who do we have to know our hunger signals, what triggers us to binge, and how to control the amount of food we eat. Stuff we practice every day on the way down cause Dr Atkins put calorie control in each of our hands with his tools to help us do it.

he could easily have said have under 80 net calories of carbs but he wanted us to embrace the fats and eat to satisfy hunger and not fulfill caloric numbers so he changed it to grams of carbohydrates and said under 20 net grams of carbs.

Re: The Great Debate: Calories in Calories Out

I agree with everything here. I found that when I had a good hard look at what I was eating I had allowed my portion sizes to creep up way too far. So I watch how much I eat in the protein area, but I don't count calories. If I had to start doing that, I'd go off it without fail.

And if I can't eat everything on my plate, I stop. I try to eat the veggies first, so if I get full, it's the other stuff I'm leaving. Working OK so far.

Okay, my head is spinning with all of the percentages and debate, but I agree with Isabeau---this IS a nice thread. A whole lot of knowledge to be found on this board!
