  • I am so frustrated

Been on induction for a week
I have weight my self, felt the scale was broken (for a bunch of reasons) Bought another, I couldn't read the dial good, so I found one I could read.
Well, I have 3 different weights and all more then I started with. SO I guess how much I weigh in general but I am going to pick one scale and only use that one. I have to re look at my diet. I know I most likely haven't been eating enough
my cal. has been on 1200 - 1500
My carbs mostly 20 and I wasn't deducting the fiber out.
    I have been drinking water
The only thing I have done is 3 times this week I had a caparceno from DD, no sugar.
    I guess that stalled me.
    Well no more.

It's generally a good idea to wait until you are finished with your first 2 weeks before weighing yourself. Your body may go into shock during Induction and initially do some things that might not look good on the scale, particularly if you haven't been a heavy drinker of water before. If you are consistent with your water intake, that will resolve itself by the end of the 2-week Induction and you'll be happier with what you see on the scale.

YES! Only weigh yourself on ONE scale, first thing in the morning, after you potty, and nekkid. And, after your first two weeks, ONLY WEIGH ONCE A WEEK! Don't become a "scale slave"!! I won't even let my doctor weigh me!!

You didn't give us your stats (starting weight, goal weight, height, etc.) so I can't say specifically, but I can tell you that you are almost definitely NOT eating enough. You should never feel hungry at this point in your WOE. If you are hungry, EAT something on the Induction food list.

You need to eat right at 20 carbs/day AFTER you deduct the fiber while you are on Induction. Less that 20 carbs/day isn't necessarily better for you. Remember, this WOE is LOW CARB, not no-carb.

That's good! Are you drinking at least 64 oz PLUS 8 oz for every 25 lbs you need to lose? You should do that every day!

I have to admit that I have no idea what a "caparceno" is. Is that a coffee drink? From Dunkin' Donuts? At any rate, if it contains milk (which is loaded with carbs) it might be part of the problem too. I'd get off those while you are on induction. Once you finish Induction, I would CAUTIOUSLY try adding one a week and see how it goes.

Hang in there and don't give up!! Re-read (or read) your DANDR!! This WOE is wonderful, but you've got to work the program the right way to achieve the best results.

    Good luck!
    Terrie

        Re: I am so frustrated

Hi Sandi. I can sympathize. When I started the first time, I thought my bathroom scale was broken so I went out and bought another one, one with big numbers so I could see them. The instructions, I thought, were so dumb. Let it get room temerature and then step on and off 3 times to get it right. Made no sense to me so it's no wonder the thing is never right. Went out and bought a digital scale because I figured hey, no adjusting so it's got to be right. That's the one I use, but I must say that my first scale talks more sweetly to me. Definitely stick with one scale.

I'm never hungry either, but I make myself eat. It doesn't have to be something big at all. I feel a little empty in the mornings and I usually have 3 eggs and 3 slices of bacon. That fills me up. Then throughout the day, I have small meals and snacks, just enough to feel satisfied, which really isn't much at all. I find that I don't really get full, I just get tired of eating so I stop. I would say not to force yourself to finish.

Waterwise (is that a word?) I should be having 96 oz. per day, but I've started to drink a little more this week. The water fills me up more than the food.

Keep us posted on how you're doing. I find that reading others' progress is a huge inspiration and I've already picked up quite a few tips from the fine folks here.

Make friends with your TAPE MEASURE!!

Best exercise you can do, is pick up the scale and THROW it out the window! Well, not really, but read "Why the scales lie" in the FAQ's section.

            Re: I am so frustrated

Scales can go bad and need adjusting. Every once in a while I take something which I know what it weighs and put it on the scale. Such as a 10 lb dumbbell just to see if the scale is still being accurate.

Just remember a scale is only one tool in weight loss. And although it is an important tool it should be used in a combination with the other tools.

Bren mentions using a tape measure above. With getting your weight from the scale and measuring your body parts with a tape measure, you can plug in the info on www.mybodycomp.com and find out your body fat percentage.

Although many dont think this is important, it actually is. You want to make sure that the weight you are losing comes from fat and not lean body mass.

As a quick example, say you lose 100 lbs but 50 lbs came from muscle and 50 from fat, although your 100 lbs lighter you would still have the same body fat percentage and appear heavy. So it is important to make sure what you lose is fat.

              thank you all. for answering
I am buying a tape measure today. Another something I rather not know. But I want to lose so I am going to do it. I do read the posts, spend alot of time reading, in fact. I am also in the boot camp that starts monday.
When you talk about losing muscle and not fat, do we have any control over that? And what would you do about it?

                Re: I am so frustrated

While there is always some muscle loss while losing weight the trick is to try an limit the muscle loss.

In my case, my first round thru dieting I was losing weight to quickly. I'd say For every 4 lbs I lost - 3 came from fat and 1 from lean body mass. Which at the time I thought was acceptable but it is not.

As far as body fat percentage goes I could have lost 2 lbs of fat alone and had the same progress as when I did with losing 4 lbs when one was from muscle. So overall I would only of had to lose half the weight I did if I made a better accounting of muscle loss.

Low-carbing, exercise and lots of protein will all help prevent muscle loss but at the point that you are seeing muscle loss thru body fat testing you need to adjust your diet and slightly raise your calorie intake to the point that you are still losing weight but not from lean body mass.

Increasing calorie intake and making sure you burn more of the calories thru exercise rather then the diet itself will help in preventing muscle loss.

I should point out however that water weight is counted towards lean body mass and is confusing when you fist start dieting. During induction you will notice the lost of water weight and with this loss will appear as loss from lean body mass will actually increase your body fat percentage.

So there is that fine line of judging that what you have lost from lean body mass has actually come from muscle or water weight. Generally I would wait till after I had dropped my water weight before testing or just take it into account the during the first 2 weeks of dieting.

                  Re: I am so frustrated

remember that lean mass is everything not fat. So you are going to lose a bit of lean mass as you get smaller as you lose fluids and body tissue not needed by your 100land self that your 300er land body had. it doesn't mean you lose muscle. And with proper Atkins eating and exercise you will actually be adding muscle mass. I added 7 pounds of it during a six month time frame.

You didn't mention your exercise. What are you doing?

We have a goalie who lost nothing during her 14 day induction. If you have metabolic issues like insulin resistance and a few others continued eating Induction low carb will allow your body to heal itself and then you will see the pounds coming off.

Make sure you eat your 3 cuops of veggies as those have to be 1/2 your net carbs for the day and if you choice lettuce for all 3 cups then your daily carb total will be lower. 20 is the maximum amount you can have you don't have to add carby foods to get there. Just have some of your veggies some proteins and some fats at each meal trying to get to the Atkins ketogenic ratios of 65% fats 30% proteins and 5% carbs out of your total calories eatten for the day.

Hang in there you can do this.

I am NOT an advocate of force feeding when not hungry. If you are satisfied with the amount of food you're eating, then you're doing just fine. If you are hungry, you should eat. Part of the weight loss journey is learning to listen to our bodies and learning to not over-think it!!

Strive for your induction ratios, get those measurements, and hang in there
