  • Advice needed!

I'm a bit worried, because my appetite is really low.....

All that I've eaten today is:

3 hard boiled eggs for breakfast

7 slices of the thin cheese slices

and for lunch i had a salad (approx 3 cups) with roasted chicken strips on top, and i put mayonnaise on it and cheese as well.

Dinner I just had 3 fried eggs cooked in oil.

I drank 3 litres of water today....

should I be worried about my calorie intake at all?

should i be eating more food?

please advise thanks! (I've been doing a clean induction for the past 9 - 10 days... and taking my multi vit as well!

You might want to spread your veggie carbs out, rather than loading them into one meal.

Other than that, welcome to the appetite suppression of ketosis. Make sure you don't go more than 6 waking hours without eating something as Dr. Atkins said.

Also don't worry too much about not eating enough food. Your body is naturally smarter than you think and it won't let you starve. Listen to your body and you'll eventually learn on some days your appetite will be greater than other days and you'll adjust your food intake accordingly (that's what Dr. Atkins hoped ketosis will teach you to do so you won't be spending your time obsessively counting calories!).

Thanks so much for the information megs! I know I've seen this post before by others, but its weird when it really happens to you, you kind of get a bit nervous and wonder if you are doing something wrong...

      thanks though!

If I recall correctly, we shouldn't worry so much about calories. I agree with Megs. Some days I don't feel hungry at all and other days I wake up starving.

Did you know in the 1970s Dr. Atkins testified in a US Senate Hearing about his diet? One of the things he had to explain away was that his diet decreased the appetite because it was alleged that any weight loss diet that decreases the appetite was bad.

remember too ifyou are eating cause the 6 hr rule and you are not hungry don't eat a full meal. eat some protein some fat and some of your veggie carbs. When you get hungry you will eat more

I'm sure you have seena picky toddler eating just bits of food for several meals and then suddenly you can't believe how much food the kid is eating. that is listening to your hunger. SOmething most of use were taught as kids not to do.

That's because we were un-learned while we were toddlers.

Babies will only drink enough formula or will only breastfeed that amount they need. UNLESS, they are "force fed" (ie: the bottle is kept in their mouths until all the formula is drained away) or they are taught that food = comfort (ie: everytime they cry a bottle is stuck into their mouths.)

Toddler, who escape the bad food habit training as babies, often are re-trained as toddlers by parent/caretakers who think the child is starving because he will only eat a few tablespoons of food. When that is a totally acceptable and "normal" amount.

So re-learn those natural food cues while you can, it'll save you alot of "dieting" grief in the long run.

                Re: Advice needed!

Its weird because we really get preconditioned to thinking we need a certain number of calories per day according to our weight ratio, etc.

I know when I tried Jenny Craig a few times, they always gave me enough food for like 1900 calories per day (a lot of smaller packages of carbs too! ), because of my starting weight.

You guys are right, I think as kids and adults we grow up to think like this. That maybe our bodies we go into starvation mode or something.

Our bodies are smart. They won't let us starve.

I found that by listening to my body, I've gone "overboard" with calories on some days and other days I've eaten "way under" them. I don't actively my count calories or monitor my fat/protein/carb percentages....I find counting carbs to be more than enough work for me.
