Re: Xenical OTC? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Media is a very powerful tool.
Especially in the hands of billion dollar drug companies and doctors who are more than willing to provide ADDICTION BY PRESCRIPTION.

Sit down in front of the TV for an entire day and count the number of "ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT...." drug commercials. There's $$$$$ to be made off the ailments of America!

God Bless You, Dr. Atkins, for empowering us all to become the best we can be WITHOUT DRUGS.

Update on this: FDA has approved Orlistat as the first official over-the-counter weight loss pill. Yikes?

Re: Xenical OTC? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

there are alot of LIFE SAVING MEDICINES and THERAPIES that are developed every day by "big evil drug companies" and alot of very good and ethical people are employed by the "big evil drug companies" (myself included!!!) and it pains me when all get tossed into one pot and panned by the general public. as in, like what happens when broad, blanket statements are made on a message board. sorry if i sound defensive - i am!

with that stated, orlistat does work, albeit in a messy way. DH lost a substantial amt. of weight on it, although it obviously does nothing to control hunger, teach portion control, or make one get off the couch and exercise. i made him stop taking the drug after about a year on it - you eventually reach a plateau, and, there is some evidence to suggest that long-term exposure to the Rx dose may cause pre-cancerous lesions in the colon. FDA approved it at half the Rx dose, i think, but there is going to be a problem wiht folks using it for extended periods of time.
