Re: Atkins Bashing! [RANT]
GRRRR I really hate Atkins bashing too... the worst part is that you can never tell who will be the worst basher either.
One of my really good friends is very social and always meeting new people; consequently, he is always introducing me to new people. Well, I'll go out to eat with my husband, my friend, and new people/ a new person, and I'll order my dinner with all my substitutions/strange questions, and the new person/people will usually say one of two things once the server leaves:
1) "You're not on ATKINS, are you?" (with rolled eyes, condescendion, pity, maybe even anger in their voice)
2) "You're on Atkins, aren't you?" (smiling a little, either positively or neutrally, in a conversational way)
About 80% of the time, it's the first scenario. I've seen some otherwise very nice people become infuriated by a personal choice that I make for MYSELF, that doesn't affect them in the SLIGHTEST.
I even had an awful experience at Chili's with a WAITRESS of all people... one night, my husband and I ordered hot wings for an appetizer, and a couple of steak plates with broccoli and sauteed mushrooms substituted for the carby junk that usually comes with it. She said, "You guys are still on Atkins? Geeeez... Everyone quit that diet because it was so unhealthy but whatever." SHE ACTUALLY SAID THAT. I'm not good at confrontation so I just sat there tearing up, but my husband said, "Skip the editorial and just bring us our food."
I suppose it's not a bad average that I only had one bad waitstaff experience with how many good waiters and waitresses there are, but it really hurt when it happened.
