    Re: Smoking and weightloss?

That's funny 2Big. But hey, whatever works.

Good luck Matt! I quit 5 weeks ago. I used the patches for a couple of weeks and then kept forgetting to put them on and after a couple of days I realized there was no point. I didn't smoke in the house either, so it's easier to quit in the winter because I don't have the urge to linger on the front porch when it's freezing outside.

Ultimately you know you have to give it up so good for you picking today!! Go you!

Good luck to you Matt! Stay strong and get the patch or the gum or whatever tools you need to quit. It will be tough but put your mind to it and you can do it.

        Re: Smoking and weightloss?

My hubby quit smoking and started Atkins all at the same time! I really admire him for that! He has lost 47 pounds and is smoke free. He used the nicotine patch. He had a bad case of "Atkins Flu" for about 4 days and then he was fine. He has never been able to make the sticks change color, I don't know why, they don't work for him so I can't answer that question, he was smoking about a pack and a half a day, but it just got to be too expensive a habit. I have noticed that he seems so much happier now. He has ADD and he is much better able to focus, he sleeps better, he has started riding his bike again, he goes for hikes and walks with me, he used to sweat in his sleep and his pillow would be covered with this nasty yellow sweat, he doesn't do that anymore, so I would recommed quiting to everyone!

            Re: Smoking and weightloss?

I was a pack a day smoker when I quit 6 yrs ago, and I lost 15 lbs at the same time (on weight watchers no less). I did gain it back but that had nothing to do with smoking, it was my eating habits and exercise. I found that being on a diet and trying to change my eating habits took my mind off of smoking quite a bit.

I think the 'i'll gain weight if i quit' thing is just an excuse. What i had done was when i found myself wanting a cigarette, i went out for a brisk walk, did a workout on my exercise bike, etc. I even joined the gym at work and instead of going to lunch with my smoking coworkers, I would spend 30 mins onthe tread mill.

Unfortunately weight watchers wasn't for me and i was soon starving and fell off the diet, and exercise plan. But i never started smoking again.
One thing i think that anyone who quits smoking has to keep in mind, is that you are not going to wake up one morning, never wanting a cigarette again. I think that's one big aspect you have to accept, you are going to have to deal with your cravings, when around other smokers, when your life becomes very stressful etc. I still crave cigarettes, 6 yrs later, but I have learned how to deal with that, I also know that my cravings aren't nearly as bad as they used to be, and I can handle them. I think this is one of the biggest reasons people aren't successful when they quit smoking, the craving doesn't go away, and they don't work at dealing with it.

            That's my 2 cents anyway.

            Good Luck!!!

              Re: Smoking and weightloss?

I think what helped me quit years and years ago... was the idea that if I did not put them in my mouth I could not smoke them...kind of like crapfood...if I do not eat it I will not be fat...simple ...for me if is made hard I can't follow through ..but simple ..works...

good luck you will be fine ...and the money you will save is amazing

Good advice Sadie. I agree. I wish you could talk to my husband though. He caves all the time. At some point you just have to get over it, you know? Move on. No more carbs. No more smokes.

Hey, Happy smoke free Valentine's Day Matt!!!
