I would recomend that you see your doctor.

Mine has prescribed me a ventolin inhaler (subutimol) one. Very very good. But thats more of a preventer than a cure. Your doc may come up with something else.

I guess it depends on how bad your asthma is.

Mine isn't too bad But the Last 2 weeks has been Bad I ahve a ton of MEDS but, I find they make me feel BAD and make me soo Jittery I ahve told my doc about this and he doesn't suggest anything just more meds. There has to be something that I can do naturally that can help. At least so I don't have to depend on the meds so much. I ahve Advair it's preventative, Salbutamol, and also Singulair which I ran out of and can't afford to buy right now GRRRR!!! Just trying to figure something out. Darn it. I take enough meds I just don't like taking more.

I ahve Hypothyroidism I take 3 pills for that a day, Pernicious Anemia I take Iron and get a B12 shot every month, Gout I ahve to take a prescribed Anti inflammatory and my Asthma. HMMMMMM LOL

Re: What do you do for your Asthma??

Atkins has totally controlled my asthma. When I started Atkins I was on Advair with rescue Albuterol (which I was using regularly). About 6 months into Atkins, I was too busy with life-stuff and didn't have the time to get my Advair refilled. I was without it for 4 days, but I had no breathing problems. After consulting with my doctor, I remained off it and have been off it. With the Albuterol, I've continued to use it pre-exercise. But recently, I've noticed I don't need to use it pre-exercise all the time.

As I've climbed the OWL ladder, I found that wheat products cause my asthma to act up---I start to wheeze and have some tightness. But recently, I've been experimenting with the wheat and have found that if I eat no more than 1 serving 3 times a week, I don't wheeze.

YA it was the Same with me I hadn't even Used my Puffer Nothing till these last 2 weeks it's like something has triggered an immune responce I am not too sure what. I used to have to take a ton of meds Just to keep it in check but, after atkins well about 4 months in I had no Problems not even when I was running Long distances. I am unsure what has caused this But hopefully I can get it figured out.

              Thanks a lot

See if you find what the trigger was....About a month ago, my sister was sprayed a Christmas gift near me, just as I was about to say something to her and I got a good inhale of the stuff---sent me into a coughing spasm that turned into a wheezing session that lasted a week.

If your asthma is caused by the excercise, Atkins recomends to take extra C vitamin

What about oil of oregano as well Sarah? I've read that it is good for the lungs.

For my cold-weather induced asthma, I moved to Florida. Problem solved.

Gad, why I lived in brutal Nebraska for 43 years, I'll NEVER know.

Re: What do you do for your Asthma??

Sarah, something must have triggered this off. Can you work back to when it started. Some things that came to mind:

                            different brand of some foodstuff
ditto cleaning product or washing powder/liquid
environmental change - weather, anything sprayed near your house etc

or some new item in the food or household products range.

You should be able to track it back by your doctor visits and scripts. If you can find a cause you may be able to eliminate it and fix the problem.

I have read that garlic is good for breathing difficulties, but I have no idea what doses are required.

Can any other sufferers of asthma (I am not one, fortunately for me) out there think of any trigger that sets off attacks?

Hope you track it down soon. BTW, cherries are supposed to be excellent for gout - where do they come on Atkins rungs? (Wherever it is, I'm not there yet.)
