(1) Extra Magnesium supplement.
(2) You might try taking naprosyn or ibuprofen. Asthma has two parts: inflammation and congestion. Naprosyn or ibuprofen are anti-inflammatories & can help the inflammation-wheezing.
(2a) Decongestant (such as sudafed) at nighttime, to take care of the congestion-wheezing. (But be careful, this can make dieting more difficult.)
(3) If you keep on needing meds - ask your doctor about Flovent. It's an inhaled steroid. It won't make you jittery. Your doctor can help you taper-off once it's under control again. (Course you don't want it at all unless you're having ongoing problems.)
