Hey My natruself! And Hello EbonySpice!
Thanks for replying to the post!

It is always so wonderful to hear about others that are loving this WOE. I have to say that I had planned to only do it for a month to see how it went. But after reading so much about Atkins and seeing all the success stories, including the progress I had made, I have committed to this indefinitely! It really isn't tough to stick with! I guess that's the part that came as such a shock to me! I'm still amazed at how the weight keeps coming off and it doesn't even feel like I'm "dieting".

Your results are amazing, and you have done well to maintain! Thanks for the tips on low carb soul food. You are right, it's only the rice and bread that makes it untouchable. Actually, I'm here in Texas and it's the potatoes, sweet potatoes (which I love), and cornbread that gets me! Thanks again for your post and the inspiration.

BTW, I haven't posted on Napp, I just lurk. But in case you were interested, I'm transitioning (10 months now).
HEYYYY!!! Yes I STAY on NP. I recently shaved all my hair off cause I was sick of it. It is sooo liberating. I needed to do that for myself right now.

Well sweet potatoes aren't all that bad on maintenance, if you can tolerate them. My thing with potatoes (that was actually my food, not rice)- I had to have it daily and that just doesn't work.

This thread has really taken off!!
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

You have had great success!!! My late father was from Charleston and we spent summers down there at my aunt's home. Funny you mentioned rice. My mother use to tease my father alot about eating all that rice. The one dish I do miss, I wil l have to dig up the receipe, is the okra and tomato dish.
With your sucess, I am wondering can you briefly share your weight lost story? Any tips for a sista ?
Hello! AHH, summer in Charleston back in the day- now those were the days for real. Yes rice is definitely a cultural thing in Charleston, not hard to overcome though. I still eat alll the same lovely things, just no rice. My grandmother has become somewhat of a low carb fan and she sometimes fixes brown rice and I will eat that. Yeah, the okra and tomato dish (okra soup). I add ham and sausage to mine to make it a full meal. LOVE IT. Talk about thoughts of childhood and grandmom's.! Did you know okra originated in Africa? I was amazed to learn that at the Smithsonian Museum- there is a whole section on African American history and they had a exhibit dedicated to okra. I was THRILLED.

Hey, I put lots of tips in my website, you are welcome to check it out!

                  What a cool thread.

Re: **African American Women** Are there any out there??!!

Wow! This thread really is poppin'!

I don't think that I have ever tasted that okra dish, but y'all made it sound so good, I'm gonna have to make it! Bravo, Allie for your recent hair cut. It is very pretty on you, and I know how liberating it was, girl. My mother keeps her hair about that length and I was trying to work up the nerve to do it myself, but chickened out. But I will chop this summer. Perfect timing because of the heat down here.

I would just like to say that I admire you beautiful ladies who are doing all of this with kids to take care of also. I have no kids yet, and still at times I find it difficult to keep up with cooking healthy meals, working out, and being healthy, so I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for you all with kids! I applaud you! Because there are times that I'm so beat, I just feel like ordering a pizza or getting fast food for my family....but I don't. Plus I like cooking, and I burn calories while doing it. I've started cooking a few meals for the week on Sunday, and that helps out a lot! How do you guys manage?

Re: **African American Women** Are there any out there??!!

Hello Angelasherell, of course I can:

I started atkins a couple of months after my 4th child was born. I was weighed 198 I wanted to try something that would afford me enough caloric intake to still be able to function as I was still nursing. I decided to do atkins and I am glad I did I have lost a total of 50 pounds.

                      SamnDee:

I love to cook but Really love baking(it calms me)I use to be hard in the begining. I bake all the time now and people ask me why am I constantly baking cakes, pies, cookies and I dont eat it. I get satisfaction just through the process of baking, once it is completed I look at it more as art than food and am not even tempted to eat it.

                      Allie:

I must say your sucess not only with your loss but in maintenance is a continual motivation for me. I find your attitude to this WOE and lifestyle very refreshing.

I have one son and a husband. I do cook all of my meals on Sat or Sun. It takes a few hours but its worth it. Each afternoon I pack a grocery bag full of the next day's meals. Works well!
