Re: The Fat Fast- I'm worried

We do lunch and dinner together, I know for breakfast she would just eat microwaved scarmbled eggs in a cup (the only thing we can really do in a dorm, lol). So I'm pretty sure that it's not overeating. She says the options are low in fiber, maybe that's it. She's just drinking some water right now.

Are you saying y'all never once had to use the 6hr rule cause neither of you weren't hungry? That is strange.

fiber doesn't feed hunger just fullness. ask her to use Not2Lates hunger scale to rate her hunger so she is intough with it.

6hr rule? I think there's only about three or four hours between breakfast and lunch. Then there's five hours between lunch and dinner. In between I down more water- I'll ask her about that. She says it just kind of aches, like she can't get comfy.

did you eat at those times cause you were hungry or could it fit in your schedule to eat then? see that is what Atkins is about. we only eat to feed our hunger so if it was lunch time and only 3-4 hrs had gone by you shouldn't have eatten if you were not hungry. if 6 hrs have elasped since breakfast and you still are not hungry then you have to eat some of those veggie carbs and a small protein/fat snack but not a full meal.

I guess we've just become creatures of habit, and that I was lucky in that it's worked for me. She never became hungry before, is she just not in ketosis yet? From my understanding, ketosis stops hunger because it's constantly burning something.

She says for today she wants to eat "Two egg yolks (hard-boiled) with one tablespoon of mayonnaise" five times a day today. I just have to ask if that's ok.

                HI Pineapple,

If neither of you have the book to read how to do the Fat Fast properly, you could print out the post 8, it says exactly how to do it....so to answer your question/or her question...it's okay to do that, that's following Dr Atkin's Fat Fast...

We both have the book, and it gives out those choices. It can be five of those choices, use only one choice once a day?

Yes, it's on the list...and is a choice from suggested items...but why doesn't she want to have some variety in her menu?

You mentioned your friend has been following Atkins (Induction if I'm not mistaken) for 6 weeks, has your friend been posting her menu's on fitday.com? Possibly have her menus reviewed in the Review My Menu forum.

I'm not a fan of the Fat Fast, at all...in most cases the person can usually adjust their normal menu and start losing again, very few are truly resistant.

Hi Please don't worry I also had problems and am now doing the fat fast. The anwser to the first question is No you don't feel hungary. For some reason I and most don't, people fell just fine. Two she should really try the L-carnitine and up it as needed that really helps. She may have to go as high as 5000mg a day. I had to go to 2000mg before it started to come off even on the fat fast. I found this combo worked for me. Their are other things she can try in the book. Just understand it probibly will take a combo of thing to get the weight moving. 7 days of fat fast and i lost 8 lbs 2 months of induction and i gained 7lbs. Yes I was very strict on induction and I read the book cover to cover. Durring the induction I burned 60 ketones and gained. It was not until I burned 160 or above that I burned fat. The hardest part about the fat fast is the meals. It's hard to work and do the meals she must try to eat 5 times a day. If you screw that part up all you end up doing is torchering your self and hurting your chance to lose weight.
I have a great carb counting program I down loaded and altered. Please email me if you want it. Bmeade8@optonline.net Good luck!!!!!!!!

Bmeade, I'm confused on Jan 16, 2005 you posted this:

                          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23184

started in october 17 lost 55 lbs and I hate eggs now. I need to read the whole book. I want to find the 2002 book but haven't. Seem to have hit a wall, Still doing it, but the weight is not comming off like before? Don't know why. Still under 20 carbs a day. Email me if you have an idea. Started 360 lbs Now 305 lbs Goal 220 lbs 85 more to go and still pluggen.

So from October to January (4 months), you lost 55 pounds. That's about 13.75 pound per month. You're definitely not metabolically resistant to weight loss!

You should post your menues (the ones you were eating before you began Fat Fast) in the "review my menu" forum. Most often times, people need their menues tweaked slightly or they are overeating their Atkins.

If your friend was not hungry and eating just cause it was meal time then she and you both over ate your Atkins induction and should be concentrating on learning hunger and feeding it now not fat fasating.

okay this is what I'm confused about Pinapple. If she was not hungry doing induction she should be in deep ketosis and as such should be in even deeper ketosis doing the egg/mayo thingie. so the hunger on day one doesn't make a lot of sense. As her how she defines hunger? empty belly feeling isn't hunger.

The L glutanine is for folk who have having issues burning fats for fuel as it is the carrier molecule between the inner memebranes of the mitochondrias. you can get a higher dose of it eating red meat then in the pills bmeade8 recommended.

Its hard to explain if you haven't read the book My sudjestion is before you worry or try to stop her read the whole book. L-carnitine is an esetial amino acid required for your body to burn fat. Dr Atkins explain this and other amino acids that help. I'm not sure you read the whole book. it sounds like you might not have i'm not sure. If not do so cover to cover not just induction. also their is anouther book that might help. Dr atkins has a book on vitamins that explain alot about how and what all the vitamins and minerals as well as other things do for the body. as far as the fat fast is esential to try to eat your meal 4 5 times a day because Atkins is not so much about loseing weight as it is controling blood sugar levels. weight loss is a side effect of this way of life not the purpose. In induction you will learn to determin hungar and contol blood sugar. Your goal is to stablize it and not allow it to spike through things that are high on the glycemic index (sugar and breads and so on ). in the fat fast you are forced to control blood sugar by eating almost no carbs and 75 to 90 percent fat. this is all in the book. the first chapter Dr Atkins talks about weight loss and this way of life. this is not really a diet.
