Re: For your viewing pleasure! My experiment

This whole thing makes me shake my head.
Your going to risk you work well done for a post which will eventually be out of sight.
I think it is foolish I agree about being 5 lbs from goal and doing this, I sure wouldnt be. I am sure your body will love you for it. It isnt really something to play with.
best of luck with this pointless experiment

Pineapple, I'm concerned for you particularly because you have a history of eating disorders: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...305#post343305

I hope this doesn't trigger a bout of binge eating.

This definatly won't. I have two people that are going to be around me the whole day (one on atkins, too) and I've been getting help since that last post. Thank you so much for your concern though, that post really meant a lot to me.

Okay, but just remember for those of us on OWL and Pre-Maintenance, if we hit a weight loss snag due a a food intolerance or due to our carb level, we don't swallow a bunch of green tea diet pills to get back on track. Nor do we drop to Induction level carbs (unless we are completely out of ketosis) or go on Fat Fast to get back on track.

We do as Dr. Atkins: we drop the offending foods and continue on eating on our appropriate phase and perhaps, drop down by 5 net carbs if the problem was the carb level not the foods.

stay close to the potty cause when those laxative SAs do their thing you will need it fast and if you think you are about to pass some gas run for the potty. Another name for those foods and candies is CYP as in c r a p your pants.

I'm curious why you needed to do this to yourself? Are you hoping to get the aversion therapy effect from them get so sick you will get sick just thinking sabout them and never eat them again?

Since you were on Met do you have a blood sugar meter? if so you could test yourself before and evry 30 min after your didner to see when those Frankenfoods hit you. i know the spike for the dreamsfield pasta is at about the 4-5 hr mark.

Re: For your viewing pleasure! My experiment

A note to any newbies who may be reading this:

Hopefully you already know that this type of 'experimentation' is *not* condoned by the mods/admins of this board, and I see that there are other members who are not in favour of this either.
                    Why?
Because it's like handing a can of gas to a burning man...there's the potential for disaster...not to mention what it can do to the digestive system.

I respect Pineapples right to do this to herself, but I don't see this as being 'all in fun', as she put it....and I certainly don't want any newbies to think that this is what a person needs to do if their weight loss slows down.

Considering Dr. Atkin's view on frankenfoods, he's probably spinning in his grave right now.
                    Bars/shakes
Quote:The patients who stayed, however, were extremely loyal to both atkins and his low-carb diet. But they had one major complaint: In a fast-paced world where everything was low in fat or high in carbohydrates or both, it was difficult to find something that they could eat on the run while still remaining on the low-carb program. They had no time to prepare their own snacks. Perhaps something like the low-fat energy bars sold in convenience stores would be great, only low-carb instead.

Atkins hesistated, and for a good reason. One of the things he constantly stressed with his patients was that they should eat foods that were as close to their natural state as possible, and for him, any kind of energy bar was as good as poison since it was clearly a processed food...

But his patients continued to beg him for something---"you sell the vitamins and other supplements, why not energy bars?" they reasoned--and so, with great reluctance, he gave in and developed not only an energy bar but also a low-carb shake that would make it easier for patients to keep to their Atkins programs.

"As long as you only use it for emergencies," he reminded them.

                    ****

The energy bars and shakes were a necessary evil, there only because he thought his patients were too lazy to prepare the real kind of unprocessed foods that were the mainstay of his diet.

Re: For your viewing pleasure! My experiment

Thanks Moochiecat, do you know any sites that sell that book? I'm looking for something to read. I'd never want a newbie to get confused by this.

2big, I don't feel like I need to. Besides a lack of interest in drinking my water, I haven't seen any changes. No diahrea, and I was wondering if that was going to be a issue. I don't have a blood sugar meter, but that would be interesting. I don't feel any spikes in attitude after I got over the bloat, but I'm sure my blood sugar can't say the same.

Thanks once again not2late, your post made me decide to chuck the green tea pills.

By the way, my friend is the same one that went on the fat fast after waiting a month and a half. I was wondering if I should ask her to write about her experience (she's on the diet that comes after it now, and she's losing! )?

Re: For your viewing pleasure! My experiment

Okay. I understand what you are trying to do, but I don't understand why.

If frankenfoods are something you are not supposed to have all the time, why do that? I could see MAYBE seeing the effect they have if you have one, just for your own purposes, but everything, all day? No one would possible do that. Anyone that you were hoping would look at this at learn from it, would only justify theirs by telling themselves that you did it all day, and they would only do it once. I know that's what I would think if I didn't know better.

This is just like the stupid McDonalds experiment that was done. The man ate NOTHING but McD's for 30 days..just to see what it did to him. No one eats McD's every meal of the day, everyday!LOL

I just don't understand wreaking havoc of your blood sugar, "just for fun". You have come sooo far. I would hate to see it reversed of your cravings come back. Those cravings that you busted your a$$ to get rid of. You don't deserve that.

I just think that this adds to how much people play around with diets. "If I gain, I will take pills." I am so glad you got rid of them, but when you said that, I wanted to cry, seriously. I've been addicted to diet pills before and they don't fix anything. They kill you slowly.

Your body has transformed tremendously, and I hope your WOT(way of thinking) has changed too. You're beautiful, and have worked WAYYY too hard to even potentially throw it away. You may wake up tomorrow and everything be okay, but mark my words, this will justify frankenfoods to someone, somewhere...I can only pray that I am wrong.

Please take care of yourself and your body.

I think everyone needs to relax. It's just for fun!

Sometimes people like to experiment and do weird stuff with food just to see if they can. Pineapple has made great progress (congrats!) and has the support of everyone on this board if she gets off track (even I don't believe that one day on fake food is going to get someone monumentally off track--those Atkins bars taste NASTY don't forget).
