Well Kathlyn is on day 17 of Atkins and there's no way she could have reached the alcohol rung in 3 days.

As long as we're clear that wine is not allowed during induction and only allowed during the alcohol rung then I have no problem. Oh and the it takes a minimum of 4 weeks to reach the alcohol rung.

Obviously this thread has gone awry. Not necessarily in a bad way, just in a confusing way at least for a Main Forum thread. I do think the point that someone posting the day before to be on Day 1 and saying to be under 20g with most coming from the wine is entirely not according to the book. Yes, you can be doing it your way, but in most cases here, you make statement contrary to the book or the rules people will answer according to their way of thinking. I don't believe the OP was told to "kiss off," but I do think other responded to the solicitation to "any thoughts."

I would go back to Megs and Lynne's original response. You still have bright ketones because you are still burning some fat for fuel along with the alcohol. I would however urge you to get the majority of carbs from vegetables as prescribed in the book rather than the form of fermented grape juice no matter what phase of the diet you are in.

Simply this. Sometimes a non-judgemental answer to a question is all that is necessary.

drinking wine every night 2-3 glasses for a period of 10 years will kill your liver. It is a proven fact that it will certainly cause scirosis.
alcohol, like sugar is poison. It is also abused. But.....thanks to the wine industry ($$$$$$) it is glamourized. I live in wine country in No. Cal.

You want phytochemicals? Get them in real food not toxic fermentation/by products of fruit.

That's true! However, I think the original point is also valid. If you're in induction or another Atkins early phase and are in a situation where you wish to have ONE glass of wine or better yet SCOTCH, it doesn't seem to seriously derail your diet in the same way that one cookie would.

There are a couple of areas where the Atkins formula can bend but not break PROVIDED THAT YOU DON'T DO IT ALL THE TIME. Caffeine can be brought i so long as it is not to excess. Occasional alcohol doesn't seem to do much harm. The problem with the original post is that he's doing it regularly.
