If you get bacon that is not cured in sugar and has no nitrates is it still bad for you? Can you have a slice or two a day or is that bad?

Bacon!! Food of the Gods!! (unless you are the pig)
That's one of the big perks about this WOE. I get bacon! Bacon is just great! Definitely look for sugar-free bacon. And remember, this is not necessarily a low-fat diet, you kinda need to make sure you get enough fat in your diet or you can actually stall. With so few carbs, we have to give our body something to burn. I personally prefer to burn bacon over bread anyday!!

      Re: Bacon

If you can get no-sugar/no-nitrates bacon then go for it!!!

Some bacon is high in sodium (salty) and some people report suffering from excess water retention after eatin 'too much' of it. It is one of those YYMV (your mileage may vary) when we really have to try it to see if we can eat it regularly or just on occasion!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Do I smell BACON?!? Oh, if you've got a few pounds of it in the house, you should mail it to me ASAP for thorough testing and evaluation. You should definately not eat it! Send it to me for examination. I'll post the findings, results and conclusions as soon as it's all gone LOL

Did I hear someone had BACON in here? LOL

When it goes on sale, I stock up. When its not on sale I eye the ads for all the stores just in case. I wrap it around seafood (bacon wrapped oysters are dinner tonight and last night I wrapped huge prawns with bacon). Loaded cauliflower gets bacon. Have you made the BLT Dip inthe recipes forums? oh yeah, bacon. bacon cheese burgers? yes please. Why yes I do like my filet to be bacon wrapped. BLTs? who needs bread! gimme more bacon for my lettuce leaf!

And like MoG I use a low sodium bacon which happens not to have sugar either (and is a store brand at that!)

So what if you get a little water retention - that is temporary and goes away eventually. WELL worth the bacon! The only thing better than a piece of bacon is MORE BACON

I get the most gorgeous bacon from my pet butcher, and the best part is if I get the 'budget' packs, it is only $5 per kg. It is just funny shaped bits - often there are full rashers, and some packs are mostly 'eyes'! We get a Xmas ham from him too and they are just out of this world. He cures all his own at the back of the shop.
