      Re: Emaciated?

I think you look great Rich, I think you may find you can tone the tummy, and still not see a big drop in pounds on the scale.

Docs are hard to please Ihave worked withthem for years. And ofcourse maaintained a relationship for various health reasons. I have always been too thin, questioning me for anorexia, or too obese lose some weight, go figure..???...

So, I give up trying to please them and please myself, you know when you are happy with your image, and feel healthy.

Great Job on the weight loss!!! Not only that, but the excersise regime as well.

        Re: Emaciated?

Also photos add weight, about 10-15 pounds
Before Atkins, I always said this to myself when I saw my photos; but the annoying truth is, I've always looked the exact same in photos and in home videos as I do in the mirror. lol

Yeah, Rich, you're looking good. "Emaciated" was not what I thought when I saw the new picture.

I stand by my Lance Armstrong comparison, maybe just because I have Lance on the brain these days.

            Re: Emaciated?

I think you look very good. Not emaciated at all.

I seriously don't think docs see too many collarbones, neck definition, jawbone definition, leg definition anymore, because most people are fattypijatty.

I look around where I live and MOST people are overweight, significantly. It is almost to the point that the thin people are an anomaly and overweight/obese is the norm!

What's sad is that I see it in the elementary school I used to work at as well. Students there are fatter than ever! MOST kids there are overweight by 3rd grade.... there aren't a lot of the skinny kids who run and play at recess like there were when I was a kid. I was *the* fat kid in our grade, whereas now, I'd be one of many many fat kids in my grade if I were in school.

It is sad! I think you look great though, and you certainly are getting toned and not emaciated! If your entire ribcage is visible through your skin and you start seeing your arm bones it might be time to add on a pound or ten

              Re: Emaciated?

              Emaciated?? Nah.

He may have been using a poor choice of words. He didn't say, "Gain some of it back" just said "don't lose any more." My doc told me at about 140 to stop there, even though she was all for the weight loss and even told me to do somthing low-carb when I was obese. I then lost another 13 pounds and I have to say I needed to. She wasn't the one who had to live in my skin!!

Another thought -- Doctors can sometimes be pretty conceited and arrogant. You accomplished a great feat ON YOUR OWN, somehow without his help. Could it be you took his place as guardian of your health? How DARE you!

              Keep up the good work.

                Re: Emaciated?

                Look fine to me man.

I understand though...when I was losing, I got down to about 192 or so. I've never been that lihght and I have a large frame, so I got lots of comments that I looked sick and emaciated. I added about 5-10lbs back on and I see a big difference. When I was that low, my face was very drawn and looked hollowed out. So most of the comments I would get, instead of "Hey, you look great!", were "Are you sick?"

                Not very encouraging...I hear ya!

                  Re: Emaciated?

Nope, definitely not emaciated. To me that means just what not2late said, bones jutting out and scrawny. I don't think you need to lose much more, your 'man boobs' look fine to me, you just need to tome the chest and stomach. As bjs1976 said, you can tone and probably find not much more decrease in weight. How tall are you?

There is a site with over 300 pages of specific exercises for different body parts. Do you do much strength training/floor exercises. Maybe they will help with abs and stomach. Link is http://www.shapefit.com/strength-training.html

Good luck, and you've done a great job so far.

Oh - I wouldn't worry. Most of my friends are doctors and none of them look that great!! Maybe he's simply concerned by what he doesn't understand.

What a difference in the two pics. Forget what the doctor said, how do you feel?

If you are still doing Atkins, then you are probably eating more healthy food on a regular basis than you ever did before. Perhaps the doctor would feel better if he had a look at one of your menu samples. i bet he would be suprised.

They just probably are just not used to seeing you looking the way you do now.

I'm 170lbs and 5' 10" and have got a blubber belly I'm still working on too...

Congrats on your fat ratio mines a bit higher than that and I'm still getting my hump busted!

Dont get stuck on it or you'll start playing head games with yourself.

You decide how much you lose and how, Not anyone else! Good luck!
I agree. You don't look too skinny, rather in shape. Like others have said, get to the weight you are happy with.

I just got back on Atkins after falling off the wagon for awhile. This time I started at 210lbs (6' tall) and I'm at 204 after 10 days. My GW is 190lbs. I had my yearly physical yesterday and I was down 12 lbs. from this time last year. My doctor endorses a low carb lifestyle and was complimentary on the weight loss.

My mom told me that I look good and don't need to lose more weight but I know better (my gut tells me so, lol!). 190 here I come!!

Maybe he's just afraid that you're taking away some of his business. With you being healthier now, you probably aren't needing him as much, and won't be needing him in the future as much either. Or, maybe he was joking - you know some people have terrible humor delivery! Even if he's just a rude prude, don't let it bother you. You have to decide for yourself what's best for you. Even the best doctors will never be able to tell how YOU feel. )

Sometimes I think people are so used to seeing everyone overweight or obese that anyone at a "healthy" weight appears to be "too thin" or in some way sick.

                                That's a BINGO!

Rich, you look terrific. Nobody who's "emaciated" could even DREAM of running the miles you do in a week's time.

Same here. My sisterinlaw who is very overweight tells me I look anorexic! Yeah, while she's home eating donuts, I'm out running marathons.
