  • Hunger *Not* Dropping Off...

I am on extended induction b/c I have not really felt the effects of reduced hunger. With the extension, I have been trying different menus, different items, different supplements and still remain hungry!

I have been keeping my ratios at every meal with 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs. My carbs are primarily from vegetables.

My calorie count hovers around 2,600-3,000 a day, much more than what I burn in a day. And I have not been losing inches or weight.

I have now cut out sweetners, dairy/cheese, most processed foods...

I am not on any meds, have been taking anti-yeast supplements, walking... Any advice or input? I am still walking around *HUNGRY* despite all my attempts to do this right....

Hi There. How long have you been doing induction? are/were you an emotional/bored eater? I ask because it took me awhile to figure out I was feeding my HABITS and not my hunger. Once I identified my HABIT feeding and not hunger, I was far batter off. 3,000 is a lot of calories in a day (I know we arent supposed to be calorically minded!) Are you sticking to the every 6 hours and having a snack if you feel hungry? That between meal snack is just that, a snack. not a 6 course meal (I had trouble with that too). piece of cheese, ham wrapped around some cucumbers and a lil dab of mayo etc. Not steak and a salad. Are you exercising? Are you using FitDay? can you share a few days menus with us?

first are you really hungry or thirsty. try drinking water when you feel hungry if in 20-30 min the hunger is gone you were getting spillover from your thirst control center in your brain. if you are still hungry eat something high in fat and see if your hunger goes away. if yoiur hunger is satisfied but returns quickly you have a not legla for you food. many of us have them mine was celery not2late has issues with many brands of ricotta cheese and combination of eggplant and tomoto.

keep a careful journal of what you are eatting and when how you feel befroe during and after you eat and again 1 hour later who you were with and where. soon you will see patterns emerge of foods or things that are triggering you. Once you identity and eliminate the dtuff you will have a much easier time. use the chart in chapter 12 of DANDR to see if you are having blood sugar issues with any foods by answering those questions 30 min after you eat.

Thanks TiredOfChub & 2Big for your responses & input.

It's weird b/c when I wake up I am not hungry at all. As soon as I start to eat, my hunger seems to increase.

As you said TOC, I may be an emotional eater. But at the end of a 3,000 all legal & 'healthy' day,I still feel hungry! I eat way more than any of my friends who are about the same size and I will feel faint if I don't get enough food in me. I am about 130 pounds so the 3,000 calories seems to be waaay to much for my body size. I shall figure out how to link my menu plan too...

Thanks 2big for the suggestions, it may be a thirst issue. BUt I feel sooo hungry, it's hard to wait the 20 or so mins. I even started taking L-Glutamine and I felt that it increased my cravings -- it did just the opposite of what Dr. A said it would help for! I have tried to make sure that I have a good amount of fat first thing when I wake up. And I have been really trying to track my personal 'bad' foods and I did not do so well in the beginning stages b/c I found I may have a problem with eggs- I was so sad to discover that!

Sounds like you've discovered that the answer to your question was in your first post; you're not losing because you're eating too much. No diet in the world is going to work for you if you stuff your face with whatever the diet demans that you eat. I understand your hunger pangs...I typically don't feel TOO hungry until I'm in the process of eating. But lately, portions that I used to consider normal are beginging to feel like they're too much for me now and end up giving me a stomach ache. It's possible that you will also adjust accordingly.

I really would like to know what you're eating, though. I'm 250lbs and even if I over-eat, I can't ever clear 2,500 calories. And we're talking pounds of beef, chicken, salad, etc. I can't imagine someone half my weight eating nearly twice as much as I average now daily.

Wow, this will be a first, but I agree with n0matter (although I never agree with the tone)!

I also think your calorie count may be too high. I don't know what your height and weight is, but for me, at 5'11" and 208 pounds, I'm hovering around 1800 to 2000. As my weight drops, I'm dropping my calories a little bit and increasing my exercise. I think the only times I ever ate 2500-3000 calories was when I was on the track team in high school and was carb-loading before a meet!

I hope this helps you get on the "losing" path!

Whoops, just saw that you are 130 pounds! Holy moly - 3000 calories is definitely up there unless you're an athlete! If this problem persists, maybe see your doctor?

              Big love and good luck!

Sorry, I don't consider this way of eating a "diet", it's a new way of eating/way of life for me. Also, this way of eating doesn't "demand" anything of me. Oh, I don't "stuff my face" either, but I sit down and eat in a civilized manner.

I have always had a big appetite but forcing myself to write it all down has surprised me to see how many calories I am actually consuming. As I have posted previously, I was worried about the total count but so many vets around here say not to worry about it. I will post some sample menus for those who will be a little more gentle...

Thanks, honey! Did you post your menu? I know folks like 2big have way more knowledge than I do and can help guide you down the path.

And pay no mind to n0matter - his tone and choice of words always threaten to rile me up! Probably a good guy, but no "bedside manner"?!

Try to look past the wording and focus on the intent of the post. I'll tone it down for you:

If you're eating too much, even very daintily and making sure to use your napkin, the proper utensils for each course and practicing perfect ettiquette and table manners, you're not going to lose weight.

The name of the book is Dr. Atkins' New DIET Revolution.

So call it what you want, it's still a diet. This is the last type of forum that I expect people to get all upset over symantecs.

Thanks Stacy, I am going to try to enter into fitday and create a link, it looks like that's the easiest way! I have actually been warned about posting my weight here by the person who rec'd this board, especially if it's well below 150 so I have left it out of my siggy, for certain reasons!

NoMatter, you just don't share the same tone as the majority here so I am going to put you on ignore. Best of luck to you with your diet.

And speaking of "intent of the post", I appreciate those who read through & understood my original post to see what my issue was -- hunger. Once *hunger* is under control, calories should follow!

To post your fitday link you need to click on the 'home' tab once you have logged into your fitday account and scroll right down to the bottom to the button marked 'make my journal public'
You will be given a link ending something like 'owner=yourname' to copy/paste.

I would post a new thread with your link in the 'Review my Menu' forum to make it more visible to those who are experienced and happy to advise on menu choices.

I know it drove em craze with the cravings until i reallized Splenda sweetened stuff made me crave sweets and celerey made me crave food. once I eliminated those two I was in control at all times
