  • Reducing Bruising?

Let me start off by saying - no, I'm not being abused, lol. I work overnight stocking at a Target and get a lot of bruises from handling and being attacked by heavy boxes, and I'm wondering if theres anyway to make bruises lighter or reduce them/their duration at all. I don't have a lot of cold steaks or frozen peas around =p, so any other advice would be nice. Their mainly on my arms and legs, some of them hurt and some don't. I've always been an easy bruiser, and since I'm so pale they seem to stay forever. I once got hit by a dodgeball and had a huge bruise for over a month . What can I do once I know I'm going to bruise to help at all? Or once I already am bruised?

I read recently that putting a banana peel on it could help it look better and heal faster. Who knows? It wouldn't hurt to try. Just don't eat the banana!

      Re: Reducing Bruising?

I feel your pain. I look a mess right now...over the weekend I ran into the tailgate of the truck and now have this big blue bruise across he top of my thigh. Then tonight I ran into one of the "ribs" on our above ground pool and have a huge blue bruise on my chin. I've got a couple bruises that I have No idea where they came from. I've got bruises that I got in 8th grade that never went away!! Ugh!

I don't do anything for them....just hope they eventually go away, but the one from 8th grade isn't going anywhere...

        Re: Reducing Bruising?

A few months back at work I dropped 3 boxes of build-it-yourself furniture that were wrapped together on my thigh. The bruise was huge, but the center of it was white and hard o_O. The hard spot took forever to go away, sometimes I swear it's still there >_<.

Invest in a tube of arnica ointment, and rub on frequently. It does make some people itch (I'm one of them) so there are other creams, here they are sold under the trade names Lasonil and Hurudoid. They may be called something different over there. Ask the pharmacist.

Here's an article on natural treatments or bruising: http://www.mothernature.com/Library/...ooks/41/24.cfm

Valid Rouge, bruises with hard lumps in them should be seen by a doctor, as the coagulated blood in deep tissue bruising can calcify - I know, I have one on my hip from a fall off a horse at 18 and it gives me pain every day of my life.

This is my bruise from my car accident , the dashboard bounced on it! That was on 24 March last, I'm still having physio to get rid of the lump (it is shrinking). The physio said I will be left with a dent in my leg as the tissues are so badly damaged. Don't ignore big, serioulsy hard bruises, get them checked.

Ayria! I agree with Odile. Arnica is the best solution for bruising. Ointment is fine, but you can also take the homeopathic remedy, which works internally. I find that the homeopathic remedy (little pellets you put under your tongue) works really well for big deep bruises. The ointment is great for the little dings we all get.

Joy - Again, I agree with Odile. Bruises with hard whitish lumps should be seen by a doctor.

Odile - my God!!! What a bruise! Ouchy ouch ouch!

Yep, make sure you are taking a good multi-vitamin as well. If it doesn't have enough potassium, take a supplement . . . or use Nu-Salt, a salt alternative that has lots of potassium in it (thanks to Sugar-Free Sheila's website for that suggestion!).

                        Re: Reducing Bruising?

Ripper of a bruise, wasn't it. I was lucky to get out of writing off the car with a bruise (we several), a dislocated thumb and some cuts. I got into a skid, despite going slowly (it was just coming on to rain, and it is a badly surfaced hairpin bend on top of a litlle hill) and we did a 360 on the road and went over a 12' embankment. Luckily it didn't roll but all the top collapsed downwards and so did the dashbord, it and the steering wheel ended up in my lap!
Origianlly the hard lump was about 6" x 2", now it is down to one bit the size of my thumb and one a little smaller. I massage them every day and have physio and I think they will dissipate eventually.

That has got to be, by far, the most painful looking bruise I have ever seen.

As for the original post, I can empathize. I'm a pale gal myself (as you can see) and when I originally developed vertigo I was a walking bruise (you walk into a lot of crap when you have random dizzy spells). I think the only thing you can really do is maybe an ice pack right after and give it time and TLC. In the mean time wear it as a badge of honor! Be like Odille! Show people and say "Ripper of a bruise. isn't it!?"

arnica is a great topical to have around.
As well, Apple cider vinegar internally 1tb a day gives you your potassium requirements in the most natural form.
