As to getting your server to change your meal here (in most places in mainland Europe), I have to laugh. I've TRIED AND TRIED AND TRIED much to the dismay of my dinner companions (who were ABSOLUTELY mortified!). And out comes dinner (about an hour later because eating out takes a LONG time here), and nothing is changed!

did you send it back? and did yuo tell your waiter his tip was based on the service you recieved and since you didn't get what you orderd he got nothing? here in the US the waitstaff make less then minimum wage beacuse their get tips so they work very hard to make you happy so you leave them a nice one. I know my Mother gets spoiled rotten in our local Shoneys cause she tips generously and they know it. She gets served breakfast at all hours just cause they know it is the only food they gave she isn't allergic to. No other location of their chain will do that for her. they know she likes extra napkins and a to go box for her leftovers and they bring it right to the tabkle before her meal is even served. There were times right after my dad died when her food has arrived and they hadn't even taken my order yet.

Doesn't work that way in most of Europe, 2Big. The tip is automatically included on the bill. No matter how the wait staff treats a customer, they still get the same pay. (Hmm, maybe that accounts for the stories about waiters in France!)

I would never ever send food back in a restaurant ..that is a HUGE mistake ...HUGE!!!

either eat it or just refuse it and leave ..but never ever send it back ...you insult the chef and you are never sure what you are going to get ..trust me on this ..I know from years of working in a restaurant and the fact my son is a chef ....bad idea!

Sweet Sadie just so you know when Dr Atkins made that statement the only foods his company made were 2 bars no longer availible shakes no longer availible as they have been reformulated and other not for induction deserts. Almost all the food was created and marketed after the book was published.

I always wondered why everyone railed against the bars and shakes when Dr. Atkins seemed to think they were ok. Now I know.
