      hi mark0

very very minimal carb intake over the 2 weeks.. i can get down to 5 carbs a day. i tend to skip breakfast (another silly thing) and eat a small lunch then dinner. i lift weights every day which i find helps.

I just finished my induction, that I did well... I ate my 20 carbs and all my veggies (what's unhealthy about eggas and steack with salad?), and I did great.

Also, since I was afraid that I'd be getting into something unhealthy before starting, just like Dr. Atkins advices in his book, I got m,yself checked at the doc. My blood tests came back, thay where all good despite my overweight (I was impressed my cholesterol wasn't up in the sky). Now that I finished my induction, I went again to get checked, to see if my normal levels got worse. The results say my cholesterol and triglycerids are even lower.

I think that the fact that you eat bacon, makes everyone believe you'll die from a heart attack ... lol ... my family doesn't approve the diet because of the same thing.

It's ok if someone wants to do this as a crash diet. But after understanding how carbs work, those lost lbs will come back sooner than later, and also my doctor warned me that if you do this diet and go back to eating your normal carbs... do it again, and go back to eat carbs, your body will develop a high metabolic resistance, so eventually it will stop working as a crash diet, and make it much harder to do if you want to follow it for a lifestyle change.
so far i have proved this theory wrong, of how you will build up a high resistance to the diet after doing it so many times, but im sure it depends on the individual

          Curious ceejay....how old are you?

I can tell you, what I ate in my 20s and 30s didn't haunt me until I hit 40, and especially 50. THE RULES CHANGE.

im 23. 6ft and 13 stone. no what you would call massively over weight but a bit over weight all the same. Not sure i understand your post to be honest with you. so are you saying you instantly put on alot of weight as soon as you hit your 40's? so in your 30's everything was ok?.. so it was not a gradual build up of weight over the years? it was instantaneous or something!!

I thought so. At 23, I ate tons of junk and never gained. Stay tuned, my friend. You don't understand my post? That's cuz you're not old enough (YET).

When I was 23, my friends and I used to go out to a nightclub every wed, thurs, fri, and saturday. After the bar closed, at 2 a.m. we used to go to a local fast food place for munchies, you know..burgers, fries with gravy etc. Every sunday we used to meet at McD's for lunch eat a quarter pounder meal, I did this almost every weekend I was as thin as a rail....

Then of course...I stared t to get older, but didn't stop eating the junk, I gained a couple of pounds here..a couple of pounds there..and next thing you know a couple of lbs was 30.

No Ceejay, it's not 'instantaneous' but boy do those years go fast, and really when you look back you almost wonder how you let it happen.

I wish I knew then, what I knew now..things would have been alot different.

Would you care to explain why you think its unhealthy? And how exactly is it boring? have you seen the recipes section!?

The Induction Phase is not the entireAtkins Diet. Induction lasts a minimum of two weeks. Then healthier carb foods, like fruit, more veg, nuts, legumes and grains are added to the diet. If you follow Atkins properly, it's hardly "boring" or "unhealthy" because the foods are far from "boring" or "unhealthy". I mean, are foods like berries, apples, corn, oats, peas, walnuts, mangoes, and carrots unhealthy? These foods are perfectly legal on the remaining phases of Atkins. The folks stick to Induction until the very end, cheat themselves nutritionally---but that's their choice to endanger their healthy by denying their bodies beneficial vitamins, nutrients and fiber, imo.

So, it really depends on what you believe "healthy foods" are. If you think vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, nuts, unprocessed meats, and unrefined oils are "unhealthy", then I guess for you, Atkins is an unhealthy way of eating.

Re: is anyone else like me?

If you did Atkins correctly, and went through the stages, then you'd get to Maintenence, and you would have built up to eating carbs again. Not stupidly, but you'll know what your body can handle and what it can't.

I've been on Atkins since October, and now I know that some foods will throw me off the track completely while other foods will still allow me to stay on track, however they may both be similiar in carb content.

You're not doing Atkins at all, and I'm not for one minute preaching to you. However, if you even knew what Atkins was, then you'd know that there are 4 stages, and that by the time you're at maintenence, you'd be eating "normally", you'd just know what foods your body reacts to.

I did chuckle though, reading that you couldn't possibly do Atkins for the rest of your life because it's so "unhealthy". Do you think it's healthier to crash diet for a week or 2 at a time?! Crash diets are the worst. You'll give yourself no end of health problems in the future, mainly stomach and intestines.

Don't listen to anyone here, but you can hardly come onto this forum with people who have had ten times the success you have, and expect us to agree with you.

If you like being part-time "healthy" then go for it. But we're all here for the long run, and just look at the success everyone on here has had.
