I eat so much wonderful food!!!! ..never a boring day for me... and I am thinking I am about as healthy as I have ever been ...

have you actually read the entire book? I used to think this diet was crap but when I read the book and realised that I could cook amazing foods and loose weight ..well look at my pic do I look unhealthy I have been eating like this for a long time now and am never bored ..the few times I have slipped and eaten sugary stuff it was ok but much easier to just keep eating this way

bottom line you do limit in the beginning so you can find trigger foods that may cause you to over eat as you add them back ...I found a new appreciation for wonderful food by doing that ..adding things back slowly...

my "boring" menu for today ...

the berry crisp with whipping cream for breakfast...

lunch is curry chicken with pappadums

dinner will be a huge seafood salad some wine ....with a piece of cheesecake for dessert

I am not bored and have not gained any weight back in over a year ...
    and I LOVE TO EAT!!!!

I've been on Atkins since October, and now I know that some foods will throw me off the track completely while other foods will still allow me to stay on track, however they may both be similiar in carb content.

You're not doing Atkins at all, and I'm not for one minute preaching to you. However, if you even knew what Atkins was, then you'd know that there are 4 stages, and that by the time you're at maintenence, you'd be eating "normally", you'd just know what foods your body reacts to.

I did chuckle though, reading that you couldn't possibly do Atkins for the rest of your life because it's so "unhealthy". Do you think it's healthier to crash diet for a week or 2 at a time?! Crash diets are the worst. You'll give yourself no end of health problems in the future, mainly stomach and intestines.

Don't listen to anyone here, but you can hardly come onto this forum with people who have had ten times the success you have, and expect us to agree with you.

If you like being part-time "healthy" then go for it. But we're all here for the long run, and just look at the success everyone on here has had.
come on steph.. honestly.. atkins is a great diet with great results etc etc, but lets not sit in denial shall we? its just as unhealthy as crash dieting.. if not more. Yes it works, and i do it for this reason.. but i also know the possible long term effects of this diet as well. To make things such as fats and protein's the main factors in your diet for so long can only spell trouble long term.. i know this, im sure you probably know this as well, yet we still go through with the diet despite this as it shows great results!! and this is fine..

on another note though, its all down to the individual at the end of the day and how you can use this diet to best suit your individual life style.. for me personally doing a 2 week atkins induction maybe 4 times a year is great; if i put a stone on i know i can loose it again in know time. i have done this time and time again...

And steph just one final thing; well done with your weight loss as you are looking fine in your pics! well done and i hope you get where you want to be.

ha ha yeah i have to admit that recipe is far from boring.

Im pleased you and others are getting results with this diet (honestly). i know i may be sounding a little negative! but underneath it all there is defo a respect for this diet i promise!!

as for a change.. no. as i have said before this technique is great for my lifestyle, and i am happy with it for the time being!

The reason i started this thread was a curiosity... i thought to myself surely i cant be the only "yo, yo atkins dieter" as you guys put it.. that plays it out this way.. apparently i am lol

Have you read the diet and understand what it entails? From what you wrote, I don't think you realize what Atkins really is.

Again, if you choose to stay on the Induction phase and deny your body valuable vitamins, minerals and fiber from vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains, then if you ruin your health it was your decision.

But please, if you describe this diet as "unhealthy", please give us specific examples of how it is unhealthy. Becausem, quite frankly, I find a diet composed of sugar-fortified low fat/non-fat refined and processed products to be far more unhealthy than one where you eat whole, minimally processed and refined foods.

Do you have the medical studies showing that it is unhealthy in the long term? I've searched and have yet to find any. I've been doing a lot of research into low-fat vs. Atkins/low carb lately, actually reading into medical studies, etc, just not what the so-called "health experts" claim to say, and honestly, I'd say the high protein/high fat (healthy fats) diets are more healthy than the "low fat" diet of the last 30 years (which, btw, were based on faulty studies to begin with).

Many of the studies are taking place in developing countries, including Africa, where natives eat alot of protein and fats naturally and have healthy cholesterol levels, BP etc. But when their populations start to become "urbanized" are introduced to refined carbohydrates and more processed foods, their numbers all got worse increasing their risks for heart disease and other illnesses.

Ask any member on this board that has done Atkins long term and lost alot of weight how their medical numbers are. I think you will find that they have all improved dramatically.

Personally, mine have all improved dramatically, and not just from losing weight. My numbers at this same weight before Atkins were not this good and I had other medical issues that were all worse, mostly because I was eating the recommended "low fat" diet and kept getting worse and gaining weight.

It's a common myth that Atkins is unhealthy, but this is either because people a) don't understand Atkins and/or b) do not do Atkins right (i.e. don't eat enough veggies, following the program and stages).

What do you find that is unhealthy about it?
              Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"

No, Atkins is not unhealthy at all. Unless you're feasting on greasy food all day long, but doing that wouldn't be Atkins. Atkins, even in induction, is meat AND VEGETABLES! Even in the first stage, you should be eating 20g of carbs from Salads and vegetables.

Even if you're vegetarian, you can do Atkins. How would that be unhealthy? Too much fat in a lettace leaf?

For instance, my dr tried all ways to convince me not to do Atkins, but even he was converted when my test results came back after 3 months on Atkins.

When I started, I was controling type 2 diabetes with my food. In 3 months, I was free of it. My blood sugars were stable, my blood pressure was better than before, I was exercising more; in general, I was much better.

I'm sorry, I do not wish to argue with you, but you're uneducated about Atkins and it's slightly irratating to have to disagree with you.

Again, if you knew anything about Atkins, you'd know it was not unhealthy.

                I'm done. Thank you

Re: is anyone else like me?

It would seem you would want to keep the weight off, instead of re-doing induction every now and then. Atkins is a lifestyle change, not a crash diet.. I read in a diet magazine that yo-yo dieting adds 70% risk increase to cardiovascular diseases/heart problems. My idea for you is to find a way to keep off the weight instead of going back on induction when you want to lose it..Why don't you continue to the different phases of atkins?

Firstly can I say that Heidi's and Stephbobs posts were fantastic, GO GIRLIES!!!

Secondly.....man ceejay....I think that everyone has been quite polite in their replies. I understand that your orginal post that you were curious to know if anyone did the same as you but the majority of the board do this WOE as a lifestyle, not a quick fix to lose a stone. I understand if this works for you and I'm not having a go at you about it but I really dont think you are taking the healthy attititude towards eating and looking after you're body and esp saying that Atkins is unhealthy!! The Government told us in the 80's and 90's that a low fat/high carb diet was the way to go....and now 20 years later the UK and USA are the FATTEST they've ever been.

At the end of the day everyone has their own opinions and decisions to make. I just hope that you make the right one one day. I really think that you should try Atkins, read the book, do Induction for 2 weeks and move on to OWL and see how you get on.

I totally agree with you. I have allready said i know this is not a sensible thing to be doing, but it works for me. IMO the diet is not good for you at all...any time.. but it works and thats all that matters for me at this moment in time. i dont feel i need to progress past the first 2 weeks as after this time, i have lost a stone and am down to a normal weight.

Remember im not picking an argument, im simply putting my opinion across.

I am not arguing with you, I am simply clearing up incorrect information, and stating my opinion, which I too am free to do. However, you have come onto this board asking for opinions, hence the post, IMO.
