Yes, there was one I always listened to that was more family-oriented...the Jack Diamond show I think (local). But then for some reason I couldn't pick it up anymore on my radio Maybe my radio-alarm is getting old!

Catherine Zeta Jones and Salma Hayek are "full-figured" because they have breasts and hips, like women are supposed to have. Most models and starlets are flat-chested and hip-less. In other words, they have the figures of 13 year old boys or 8 year old girls.

Imo, it's part of the underlying pedophilia that pervades the media today. Seriously, by today's standards Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren in their heyday or Marilyn Monroe were "chubby". Why? Because they had curves (aka breasts and hips).

Some of the runway models look like skin-covered skeletons...gross! For hips all you see are the hip bones sticking out. Yucky.

Re: The radio annoyed me this morning

I've always preferred "thick" (by pop-culture standards) women...even before I knew what that meant. I strongly believe more men prefer this body type on a woman than admit. They feel they have to say the Hollywood stick women are what they view as hot because it's "safer." I think that's also a reason why so many Hollywood women are so skinny. It's safer to be called too thin that to have an ounce of fat anywhere. Especially when doing scenes that require bathing suits or nudity. Look at Jacki on that Bravo show Workout. Fawking gross.

                PS
I do not prefer thicker women because I myself am a porker. I was once in excellent athletic shape and did then as well.

Re: The radio annoyed me this morning

That reminds me of a radio station I listened to every morning when I'd walk early at 5:30am. The guys on the radio station seemed decent enough ... then one morning one of them made a remark about lazy fat women. OH BOY. This started in on a whole week of phone calls, emails and discussions on weight. It was fascinating to me, I couldn't turn off the radio. It ended up with him making a public apology and I think it really hurt their ratings. Some of the women said they'd never listen to those guys again. People should think before they talk. I think they just try to impress their buddies and don't think about the outcome of their words.

Yep the typical wrong assumption. Fat people are lazy. Now I being 44 years old and 298 pounds can work 40 hours a week, take care of a two year old, a husband who works the night shift, 3 dogs, and a home and a yard with all that takes I would slap anyone who dared call me lazy to my face. haha

Maybe it's where I live (lovely central Nebraska), but the DJs here are so great. They NEVER make fun of people, and one of the most wonderful DJs is a Christian, but so very funny! I think its 1000 times more difficult to be funny and clean than to resort to "easy" rude and obnoxious slams.

Re: The radio annoyed me this morning

I'm going to admit something, here, that I've never admitted in my life. Bear in mind, as I tell this story, that I, myself, have battled with a weight problem throughout most of my adult life. So, I tell this with the greatest of shame.

Many years ago, I was working as the Audio-Visual Director in a very large high school. That particular year, one of the librarians was retiring, and applicants for the position were coming in for their interviews and a tour of the facilities. Each of them was brought into my space to meet me, since I would ultimately be working closely with the one who was chosen.

One day they brought in a lady who was extremely obese. I clearly remember the first thought that went through my head -- Oh, God, I hope they don't hire her! As quickly as I had that thought, I realized just how wrong it was, and berated myself, mentally, for having allowed it to pass through my brain. I made myself smile, welcome her, and wish her luck.

As fate would have it, she was deemed the best choice, got the job, and began work the following September. Within just a few weeks of the start of the school year she and I became the best of friends. We frequently socialized, going to dinner, a play, the movies, etc.

I left that school in 1985, and today she is the only person from those days with whom I'm in regular contact. We talk on the phone every few weeks, and exchange cards on all the usual occasions. Whenever I have to go down there on work related trips, she and I always spend a great deal of time together.

I consider this woman to be one of the best friends I've ever had in my life, and a beautiful person, indeed. I still feel just a bit sick to my stomach when I remember that first thought that I had of her.

I think my brain has always been sufficiently intelligent to know that we shouldn't judge others by appearance. Now, though, I think my heart understands that, as well.
                            -Chris

Thanks for sharing that story Chris That thought may have gone through your mind, but the important thing is that you immediately realized the thought was not so nice. Even better, you and that person became good friends.

I know so many people, even relatives, who think that fat people are lazy. There is never any basis for it...anytime an overweight person does something they don't agree with, they are suddenly a 'fat lazy arse." Well, skinny people can be lazy arses too.
