  • Because fiber is found only in high-carbohydrate foods...

This is just one stupid phrase found in this article I read.

    http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...23/ai_n6092132

Granted, it was written in 2004, and published in Shape (a notoriously anti-low carb mag) (get your claws out Sheila), it still has some ridiculous claims that low carb is bad for you. My favorite is the study that says that low carb reduces serotonin levels and makes you grumpy. So never true! I feel fantastic on low carb, as many of us do.

But back to her claim in the title of this thread. She says that fiber is only found in high carb foods, yet there are many low carb veggies with loads of fiber, more so often times than whole grain foods. These claims came from the author of a book, not the author of the article. Anyway, very uneducated gal, and probably refuses to educate herself because of an obvious bias.

This article also stresses the ridiculous claim that your brain needs tons of carbs just to function. A chart in the article says my brain needs at least 245 carbs per day. Shouldn't I be dead now, since I have eaten low carb for years now, and what about the others of us, are you guys ghosts, well you should be!

anybody not wanting the science just skip this
the carbs only for brains came about because they didn't know that any of the ketone bodies (Acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acetone) were water soluble and assumed they all could not pass the blood brain barrier just as triglycerides fatty acids can't. Now that it is known that ketone bodies can pass to brain tissues the need for carbohydrates is limited to cells that don't have mitochondria like red blood cells, parts of the retina and some deep areas of the brain.
the other thing they skip right over is that the human brain can't tell if the glucose molecule in the blood about to enter it came from natural sugars digested from carbs or glucose created in the liver from teh glycogenesis of amino acids from protein, the hydrocarbon back bones of the fats, or the regeneration from sugar combustion byproducts like lactose. All it knows is it is a glucose. See when Dr Atkins said we had to eat healthy low glycemic index carbs he know what he was talking about too.

pumpkin, jicama is celery should be.

If you are having fiber related bathroom issues read rule 12 chapter 11 and add flax seed meal, psyllium and/or wheat bran to your induction acxceptable foods list. start with 1-2T and increase as needed per rule 12.

Re: Because fiber is found only in high-carbohydrate foods...

                Two Myths:-

                1. That you need to ingest glucose, to fuel the brain with Glucose.

                2. That fibre is a requirement.

With the first one, 2Big is right. The body makes the glucose requires for the brain by synthesising it out of protein.

Now fibre. We only require fibre when our diet is poor. If you ingest enough fat, and have adequate magnesium, and low carb, then your body will perform in the best way it can. Did you know it's not necessary to defacate everyday?

Now there is an adjustment period, where the body adapts to no fibre, but keep the fat up and take your magnesium suppliment.

Fibrous veggies - Brocolli is one of them. Spinach, Celery.

Dave, I believe that fiber is a health requirement, as I do think that it aides in the prevention of some cancers. But with everything regarding health and nutrition, that may not be true.
