    if you think the smoking analogy is wrong then think of one of us, someone who would rather eat veggies than a roast, going to a vegetarian board and saying that they did everything vegan style but once a month they found the protein in a t bone was to die for and it worked so well, that they decided to reward themselves once a week. would they be following a vegan diet? no. and people on the vegan site would make comments just as people are doing here. they would defend their woe and the integrity of their board.

    everyone is in agreement with congratulating djfmf on the weight loss. one of the problems is, as i mentioned before and other have stated is, we have members here that have a problem day to day just sticking with 2 weeks worth of induction and when someone comes in, with a metabolism that burns off anything and everything, it give those struggling members a false sense of security.

      Okay guys, having eaten the food at the mess halls in Iraq, let me tell you, I applaude djfmf for attempting to do Atkins at all. Its not like he as the grocery store down the block to fine food at. He has a Burger King, a PX loaded with junk food and none of it low carb and he has the Mess Hall which I must say has a salad bar, but often it is loaded with strange foods from a can, beans, beets, and occasionally lettuce that is probably older than me. He has maybe if hes lucky two or three different meals but they are always loaded with gravy or fried in breading. You can't read labels an so you just don't know what your getting in the dressings etc. Just finding a low carb meal in Iraq takes more work than I was able to muster.
      Also, go off base and you get handed a bag-o-food called Meals Ready to Eat. Each bag has 3000 calories so you know aint nothing low carb, just the opposite, mostly high carb. Then there are the tables and tables of deserts lining the walls.
      Dj, stick with us kid. We really do want you here and we are glad to have you, we just caution you to understand where we are coming from. OMG, I remember the flax when a certain ADMIN admitted to not eating veggies.

        Jimmie - I find all analogies funny at this point in the world, I quit smoking like, 4 weeks ago (2 weeks after cutting carbs out again), and was raised vegetarian... and Vegan isn't the same as vegetarian... it's like no carb vs. atkins...

                Uhmmm... I never learned how to dance either... Can someone teach? I even tried the aerobic striptease thing with carmen electra... I don't think it helped.

                    i was about to break down and cry until i read Lyssies response, someone finally understood me. I'm not promoting for you guys to eat the way I do because it works. If you read carefully in one of my previous posts i said "hey if it seems like i'm promoting something i shouldn't then let me know and i'll make sure not to do it next time, i will however offer advice and tips that worked for me on atkins". I really did lose weight doing Induction, plain and simple. I lost weight doing Induction last year August 2005 and I lost weight doing Induction again in July 2006, me rewarding myself recently shouldn't make me a traitor or some bad guy.

                    Also not once did i try to do the "nya nya nya you can't have this" type of attitude, i just said i'm able to eat that type of food on my diet because i can work it off. Did i make fun of anyone in particular, then let me know and i'll apologize. Because i can't recall one incident on this board where i ridiculed someone on their weight. Also i never came to this site for attention, even though it may seem like it. i came here just like the rest of you guys for advice and info, but like i said i'm not new at how this diet works.

                    Can we just get one thing straight people, just one thing. I DID LOSE WEIGHT DOING ATKINS INDUCTION. I FOLLOWED ALL THE RULES AND I LOST WEIGHT. DON'T LET ME REWARDING MYSELF MAKE YOU THINK ANY DIFFERENTLY OF ME.

                    Maybe i am straying off the path of Atkins and making it still work for me but it won't change the fact that I lost weight doing Induction. This reply should be enough to answer all your questions and i think a MOD should close the topic because i've had enough constructive feedback. Not that it's hurting my feelings it's because it's gotten out of hand.

                          I've read this entire thread and let me just say this:

                          If you choose to modify your Atkins to eat whatever the heck you want, that's your decision.

                          But it's really hard for us to give you dieting advice, when our advice is based on Atkins: a diet you have admitted you are not doing.

                          Also, it's illogical for you to post a thread in the "Review my menu" forum entitled "Induction Menu in Iraq" then get offended when the reviewer gives you Atkins Induction advice on your "Induction" menu. Please note: This is an Atkins Diet board. You posted in a forum called "Review My Menu". You labeled your menu as an "Induction" menu. It's only logical to expect to get an Atkins Induction menu review.

                          I have to re-iterate what others have said. Many of the people here have medical problems and have tried and failed many weight loss regimens. Many people come here to get the support to kick their fat-promoting eating habits. Many people here come because they're trying to avoid eating that piece of cake or that pan of lasagna.

                          Posting something like this:
                          i have a challenge for anyone willing to try out my diet plan for 2 weeks(minus the reward section that is). if you see weight loss then my meal plan works. if not then maybe my way is wrong or you just weren't following it correctly. besides who can 100% follow the rules and still see weight loss? not everyone, people still have to tweak it here and there so they can continue seeing results. i followed atkins induction by the book the first few months but over time it has evolved so that i can still lose weight because i've been there where i just can't seem to lose weight.
                          Gives these people a false hope and security that if they give into their cravings they'll still lose weight.

                          About 2 years ago, we had a poster who had a 10 pound weight loss goal. She got a recipe for a low carb dessert. A perfectly Atkins Induction legal low carb dessert. Every opportunity she got she would post a thread in the Induction forum about how yummy this recipe was and how everyone should try it. Every time someone posted a thread about having cravings for a chocolate bar or a piece of pie, she would encourage them to make that recipe, eat it and enjoy it. I can guarantee you everytime she sabotaged these people, the moderators and old-timers here would discourage using that recipe to feed those sweet teeth. Everytime she would respond by saying that she eats it every night and she was losing weight. And every single time, these posters would give into the sweet tooth, make the recipe, eat it and keep on making and eating, until they gave up the diet completely. She, on the other hand, lost her weight. It took her 6 months to do it, but she lost it. The folks she sabotaged, left and never came back.

                          So if you think you are being treated unreasonably by the members here, just remember: we've dealt with alot of people here. It would be irresponsible of us to allow anyone to be purposefully sabotaged by a "well-meaning" poster. The mods and admins 2 years ago let that person slide by to the detriment of many posters and an untold number of lurkers. We have a new set of mods and admins now and tt would be a shame to have that happen again.

                            I know I'm coming into this a bit late, but I must say this......

                            Seriously, folks. We have enough troubles in this world than to worry about whether or not somebody who enjoys the board chooses to take the advice given. We are only responsible for ourselves at the end of the day. Being a "newbie" myself, I am also an intelligent (if I do say so myself) adult and I know that if I chose to go down the path of djfmf and failed to lose weight, I could not say it was Atkins that didn't work because if you've read the book you know his plan has strayed from the straight and narrow laid out by Atkins.

                            That being said, I feel for you, djfmf. I don't think you were trying to be mean spirited at all. I could sense your frustration at trying to get your point across. I always feel like a new kid in school when I join a board, and if I were treated this way when I joined, I'd run for the exit as fast as I could! I would want to spend time people who can give their opinion to me without attacking me personally or being hurtful. I wish you well.

                              that post of me you replied with was my response in the beginning... if you read in my later responses i already said "hey if it looks like i'm promoting something i shouldn't let me know and i'll stop". when i posted that i stopped, can you look anywhere else in my post that i keep boasting "it's ok to cheat like me"? what i do is my own business and you don't have to accept that, everyone else should just focus on their weight loss. i've already pm'ed a few people to explain why and they seem to understand my true intent on this site a little bit better than when i posted on the forum.

                              just listen for a second, i've barely been here for a few days and you seem to think i'm a bad guy. i see it that i made a wrong impression about myself without giving you the full details to understand me and my diet, a few words left out can give someone else the wrong idea. you would only truely understand me if you sat down and talked to me person to person, saw what i ate etc..... let's focus off of what i do on the side, just let me be on that since it's something i have to deal with and take full responsibility of. focus on someone else who needs help and advice and good information.
