Most of it will pass though the body, undigested (by you, at any rate -- those gut bacteria will love it, however!).

If you ingest enough of it? Oh, yeah! Plus a lot more. Those little bacteria just LOVE SAs -- they think they've been given a smorgasbord. And the by products of their metabolism is water and gas.

Just ask anyone who's ever over endulged in sugar free chocolates (especially ones, like the peanut butter cups, that contain lactitol). You'll be spending a lot of your time "on the throne!"

        ROTFL!!!

That gives me some ideas for getting back at my husband who is a fart machine...although eggs and mayo works pretty well.

Dang you must be in serious ketosis there...LOL just kidding

Mine smells weird, but I don't know how to describe it. As long as it smells different than "normal" though, it's a good thing!

JC! OMG!! RUN FROM SA's!!! I wish I never would have touched them. Everyone has different recations, but let me tell ya --> PAINFUL for me. I had like 3 pieces of SF candy, and UGH. So much pain I made the BF throw them in a dumpster far from my appartment! Never again. Just wanted to let you know to proceed with caution. SF gum doesn't bother me as much though, although I've cut it out too.

                Best Wishes!

I hear ya girl, I bought a bunch of those low-carb power bars and I thought they'd be a good quick meal... Oh **** no! SA's make me double over in pain! Or at least whatever kind is in those bars does...
Bad, nasty, weird stuff that does that to us! It's just wrong!

Holy moly...I am definitely reading up on SA's tonight!! The gum doesn't cause me any problems other than worries about the carb count. I read the SA sticky here, but I'm interested in find out more about how it affects the body in relation to the carb count.

Yikes, good thing you are staying away from them as they caused you so much pain! Thanks for the heads up

Re: Alternative for sugar free gum?

I eat sugarfree gum... 1g SA per stick, half a stick at a time.. since the only time I haven't been chewing it since quitting smoking is when I'm drinking coffee... I'm trying to calculate the amount I'm saving on cigarettes vs. the amount I'm now spending on gum. Anyway, some people react really poorly to it, some people don't.
I'm curious though, if it made you hungrier, so you had a diet coke...?! I'm sorry but I thought sweetener in the diet coke would be causing more of a reaction than the gum in making you feel hungry?!

lol yeah I know... but see diet coke is ok for me because of the carbination, I get soooo full. I can't even have diet coke with a meal or else I won't be able to eat anything at all... It's really weird. I just fill up with bubbles and go on my merry way. lol

Oh and regular diet coke has never really spiked my cravings, strangly only diet coke made with splenda does this... and I'm still unsure if the gum does anything to me or not lol.

I can't believe no one suggested brushing your teeth! You can even buy travel size for your purse. I brush my teeth at least 3 times per day, and definitely when I feel a bit of a craving coming on. I brush with Extreme mint, you just can't follow that stuff with food!
