IF you are eating enough fat.

I don't remember the name, but someone lived with the Eskimos and ate their diet for a year and did fine. When they replicated the diet in a clinical setting, he got sick very shortly because he wasn't eating fatty meat. When fat was added, he was well again.

I'm sure the story has been posted here before.

I also agree that Dr. Atkins spent years perfecting this diet. Why mess with it?

Not entirely true... yes, he SAYS "no carbs" in the book, but he just didn't consider the veggies that were part of the plan (as outlined in the book) to be carbs. If you read both versions, there really isn't much change in the first two weeks.
100 pounds gone forever from 12/03-11/04. Thank you Dr. Atkins, may you rest in peace...

They point to the Inuit (eskimos) as their model. Fat and protein and no veggies. It is very interesting to me. They have no scurvy yet get no Vitamin C.

Now I eat my carbs and am not sure I support all of that. But it is very interesting.
Just to add more to something that was said earlier...I happen to be married to an eskimo and I have not only studied their diet but have lived it....They do eat vegies and berries...they pick wild rhubarb, blueberries, raspberries, currants, cranberries, and much much more...along with rosehips which can be used like berries or tomatoes and are super high in vitamin C....
For vegies, they had roots that they dug up, fiddlehead ferns, and a bunch more which I have a hard time pronouncing...They also had eggs, and something that they got out of mouse holes which was saved food for winter...they would take a little bit out of each hole in the tundra and leave the rest...There is alot more including the scrapings from the inner bark of certain tree's and such....
So you can see, They had alot more to their diet than alot of folks thought... They had a well rounded diet that is quite similiar to the Atkins diet because they ate tons of fat, some meat, fish, berries and veggies....that was the basis of their diet! And they used every part of everything that they could. My mother in law is near 60 years old and can still climb mountains for berry picking faster and farther than I can....She is a dynamo!! She is super healthy and works alot and eats almost all of her food like her ancestors did except for a few things...coffee, etc lol

          just kind of an fyi...rofl

          Hugs to you all!
