Or however ya spell it. The only grocery stores around here are super walmart and super K and town and country. Havent thorougly checked them yet just wondering if anyone knew if they were at walmart or kmart

Where do you live? We have them at most of the grocery stores in our area, but if you have a mexican market they probably have them there.

Chayote is often found in most of the larger supermarkets. It's becoming more and more popular, and since it's now grown in the Southern and Western US states, it's increasingly available all over the country. Why don't you just give the local markets a call and ask?

If you want them to really taste like apple cook them in some Atkins Morning Start apple drink if you can find it. I boil them on the stove in a bit of it until they are tender and the liquid is cooked down a bit. you can thicken a bit of the liquid with psyllium, though keep in mind that even though it does thicken it quite a bit..it does make it fairly slimy...or you can just pour off the liquid. add cinamon to taste.

Chayote to me taste a little bit like very mild cucumber..they're very good in either sweet or savoury dishes. I love them raw, tossed with lemon juice and sprinkled with cinamon and splenda.

We have lots of produce markets in my neighbourhood. I saw it at an Asian market where they called it "chow chow" and also at a Jamaican market where they called it "cho cho". Whatever....I call it yummy. It's really good as "fried apples" and I also eat it raw at lunch time. Either way it's really good. Some weeks the supermarkets don't seem to have it though, so maybe they just didn't have any the first time you went. You can always ask the produce manager if they ever order it.

Well here's my chayote experiment:



I just layered sliced chayote on the bottom of a parchment covered cake pan. Sprinkled with cinnamon and splenda, dotted with butter and then covered with "KIM'S FLAXMEAL CINNAMON MUFFINS" http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...5&postcount=10
I used DaVinci caramel flavoring for the muffin part.

To top it off in the center is an ounce of softened cream cheese flavored with DaVinci caramel flavoring.

Haven't tried it yet. It'll be my dessert for dinner. Crossing my fingers it tastes as good as it came out.
