  • Spit roast chickens

As I am not a cook and hate cooking, I'd like to buy those spit-roast chickens all hot and lovely in the supermarket.

I know that they spray some kind of sugary type substance on them to make them brown. The question is, would this small amount of dextrose or whatever it is make any difference? I mean, if you just have a leg, how many carbs does that light spraying of sugar actually add? I mean, are we talking 1/2 a carb, or are we talking ten?

Is there another objection to eating such chickens, such as re-awakening a dormant sweet tooth?

    Very grateful for yr comments!

    Re: Spit roast chickens

I have heard and read in the book that sugars can re-activate a scraving if they are gone. Best bet would be to stay clear. I have some recipes if you are interested in baked chicken. They are actually pretty simple to do. I had some today for lunch actually!!

I eat rotisserie chicken all the time; I am eating it right now in fact

Doesn't cause me any problems, but then I don't eat the skin, and that is where all the tasty stuff is.

I'll be honest, I eat the skin. Once they've been roasted like that I figure most of the sugars have been cooked off. I get 1 a week and it makes dinner for two, 2 lunches, and some great soups

I work in walking distance of a supermarket that has them. They actually have an ingedient list stuck on each conainer and it does have dextrose and modified food starch. I ate a quarter of one for lunch one day and DID eat the skin. I don't think it stalled me which I care much more about than cravings. This way of eating will not stop you from craving stuff. Some people here seem to suggest it will but I think that's silly.

          PS
It didn't make me crave anything
more than I already was ;-)

Maybe he meant that's where any sweetness might be, not fat.

Oh, and they inject fat into rot. chicken to make it juicer, so he's not lacking fat.

I did indeed mean its where most of the sugary paste is applied; I eat plenty of fat don't worry, but I never have liked chicken skin or fat on meat. I'm not stalling and probably eat 2-3 chickens a week

Can't believe I read that on the ADBB.

Before I went low carb I was crazy for bread, chocolate, Coke (not diet)
and potatoes. They were my life! If someone had told me that I could
live happily without them, I would have said that person was stark
staring crazy. And yet here I am, living happily day-to-day without buying bread or potatoes etc.

When I go on Atkins all my cravings just disappear into thin air. I was constantly looking in the fridge, in the cupboards, nibble nibble nibble all day long. Now I go 6 hours straight without even thinking about food. I cannot recognise myself as the same person who had that ever-empty pit of a stomach that was never satisfied.

I thank Dr Atkins for his research, and for helping millions like me to stop the
                    constant eating!

When you are in ketosis, your cravings are curbed dramatically, however, sometimes as you move up the OWL ladder and aren't careful, your cravings can return, so essentially, Winthorp is correct.

Man I used to be a sugar maniac. I had to have something sweet after dinner. I used to love candy bars, cake, chocolate in any form. Not to mention how much I loved potatos cooked any way possible and piles of pasta. No wonder I got so big!!! NOw it does not bother me at all not to eat them. I am not hungry most of the time and that helps. BUt after dinner I drink another glass of water usually and I never really think of desert anymore. Yesterday I looked at the clock and it had been nearly 6 hours since I last ate and I had not even noticed! I love atkins! Compare this WOE to the 1200 cals my doctor put me on when I was starving all the time and constatly thinking about food!
