  • Hard Boiled Egg Question

Every time I hard boil eggs the shell is difficult to peel off, and I will take some egg with it. Does anyone know if I boil them too long, do they do that? What is the trick to make sure the shell is easy to peel off? Thanks!

Do you buy Omega-3 enhanced eggs? I find that no matter what I do, I cannot peel those eggs, but have no issue with 'regular' eggs.

I've heard that running them under cold water while you are peeling them can help if it's regular eggs.

What are Omega-3 eggs, anyway? Does it have to do with what is fed to the chickens?

BTW, I don't buy eggs! I am one of the lucky ones who raises chickens and gets them fresh. I have all shades, white, tan, dark brown and even blue!!

I find that when I buy the cheap eggs from Wal-mart I have this problem. With higher quality eggs they are easy to peal.

Wow lucky you! I've never had a fresh egg in my life , guess that's good since i don't know what i'm missing.

Yes they're omega-3 enhanced, it's added to their feed. They're pretty pricey, 3.49 compared to about $1.50 for regular. I think they're worth it, I checked with my Dr. to see what he though and he did say they have enough O-3 to have health benefits.

Hudson that's funny, my problem is the opposite. I can peel the cheep eggs..

Well, you don't get any higher quality than my chicken eggs. I know exactly where they came from and I am responsible for the nutrition of the chickens, which is excellent. I still get the peeling problem.

LOL actually GMom your eggs are too fresh if you let them age a week or 2 in your frig before you boil them they will peel much easier and they will still be okay to eat. I learned about egg peeling tips on foodnetwork cause I was having the some peeled eacsy some peeled hard issues too and just happened to see it was going to be an egg day on the show.

If I could FedEx you a dozen of my eggs, I sure would, my friend. Eggs you buy from the store taste downright bland in comparison. The yolks are a deep yellow. AND when I use them in recipes, they enhance the dishes flavor. Even cakes that I make for my family taste richer and moister.

I love having hens, they are one of the few pets that give back. And it's a good thing they do, because you don't have chickens to be all cuddly with you. Not to say they aren't friendly, they just don't want to be caught. They will sit calmly in your arms and let you pet them. They will never peck at you. I love chickens!

Thanks, 2Big, I know I can still eat my eggs if they are in the fridge for one to two months. I just know to set them in a bowl of water to see if they float. If they float (for those who don't know what the heck I am talking about), then they are either spoiled or stale.

                          Let's see more chickens....

Ooo and there are sheep.. and ducks... Got those too!

                            Re: Hard Boiled Egg Question

The key to having easy-to-peel eggs is running them under cold water. As you know, heat expands things, cold contracts them. I put mine in a colander/strainer as soon as my timer goes off, and I run them under cold water for about 5 min. By dousing them in the cold water immediately, the egg pulls away from the shell. This works with ANY egg, regardless if it's fresh, aged, or store bought.
