  • Coffee...please help

I'm gonna need some help here with coffee. I drink a cup per day, but not because I feel like I need it to function, but because I enjoy it. I love the aroma of fresh brewed coffee as I'm sure many do. I guess too, that I associate coffee with "getting/waking" up...sort of like a morning "ritual." My husband, who knows how much I love coffee, brews me coffee some mornings , especially weekends...and he's a non-coffee drinker.

I am worried it may be impeding my weight loss, due to what I've read about caffeine and insulin causing fat to be stored. That sounds really awful!!

I want to give up coffee, but at the same time I don't know if can. How can I give it up, without feeling like I'm denied of one of my favorite things?

Why not just switch to decaf? The aroma is the same and I agree nothing like the smell of fresh coffee in the morning.

Thanks Atkid and 2big. I might pick up some decaf espresso beans from Starbucks (I'm a coffee snob lol) at lunch tomorrow...see how that goes. I didn't know if there was anything bad about decaf...I thought I'd read something but I may be wrong.

Sometimes decaf tastes different from regular (don't know why?). The only good decaf I've found so far is from Taster's Choice, but I prefer brewed coffee. I can't wait to try the Starbucks decaf.

          Re: Coffee...please help

At the beginning of Sept I started drinking coffee for the first time. I do 2-3 cups of regular in the morning, and 1-2 cups of decaf in the afternoon/evening. I add Splenda, sf syrup, and Calorie Countdown milk to it. It has done nothing but HELP my appetite, and I am still maintaining well. I am doubting it would have hurt my weight loss if I started it during my weight loss phases.

We have a Keurig K-Cup brewer at work, and drink Green Mountain brand k-cups. I also bought a home brewer. Love it.

I guess caffeine affects people in different ways. I want to see what happens if I omit the caffeine completely. My favorite brews are Ethiopian Sidamo and Sumatra...maybe they'll have a decaf version of those.

You ARE a coffee snob! I NEVER quit drinking loaded coffee during my journey, and well, I never will. I love it period.

My dad brews my mom's coffee too because he loves the smell. He doesn't drink it.

Also, I don't want to drink decaf due to the chemical process used to decaffeinate coffee. I get enough chemicals in my life...

I have no idea what's involved in decaffeination...I should go read into that. Hm, I never considered that...now I am curious! Off to google LOL...

                  Re: Coffee...please help

actaully the chemicals now used are very natural if you got the swiss water method the beans are soaked in water then the water is filtered through activated charcoal and returned to the beans to give the disolved flavor back.
naturally decafinated or indirect means the coffee beans are water soaked and then the water is freated with ethyl acetate a coumpound found in fruits the decafinated water is then returned to the beans to dry.

then there is a cool new one using CO2 as a liquid the beans are soaked in the CO2 and the caffiene is dissolved. when the beans warm back up the CO2 with the caffeine evaporates leaving beans without caffeine behind. they no longer use the bad for our health chemicals from the old days.

My link says that that chemical is made, not gotten from fruits. I just want closest to nature coffee, I guess.

I was reading up on the Swiss method, it sounds like a good one. I wonder which companies use which methods for decaffing. I am having a cup of decaf now..it's ok I guess.

I'm starting to think coffee just tastes better in ceramic mugs. I had this same decaf at home, in a mug and it was fine. Kinda blah in the styrofoam cup. But I know I'm not tasting styrofoam!!
