  • Toot your horn!

I admit I blatantly stole this idea from another board, but what an awesome idea!

Let new people coming in, or people coming home, know how great you've done! Tooting your horn is a positive thing, and it shows people the power of Atkins!

Find something positive to say about how you're doing so far, no matter what. How much have you lost? Did you take off inches? How long did it take you to lose it? Are in maintenance? Shout it out, honey! Work those brag muscles!

I lost 115 pounds in 7 months. Thank you, Dr Atkins!

Now I'm off of all medications for depression, high blood pressure, acid reflux and saving over a hundred dollars a month as a result! And seeing my doctor's jaw drop when he saw me 6 months after I started Atkins was an awesome gift!

What positive tooting can you do? Go ahead! You've earned it!

    Re: Toot your horn!

So far, I have lost over 35 pounds in 2.5 months.

I have gone down 2 clothes sizes (from a 20 to a 16), and I have a feeling I'll be down one more size, to a 14, well before Thanksgiving.

I had someone at work notice my dedication to working out!

      Re: Toot your horn!

Cleo, what an incredible loss.... and yay for being able to ditch all those meds! I understand you were away for a while. I've only been around for a couple of months. Am glad you're back as you seem to really add a lot to this board!

Juli, that's great progress in less than 3 months. (I think we must have started around the same time...) And while we do this for ourselves, it IS always a nice treat when someone else notices our new lifestyle (and its results!), isn't it?

Let's see... my "toot" is that I'm ounces away from my mini goal, which will bring me to 30 pounds in 2 1/2 months. This will take me below 250 -- I can't recall the last time I was that weight, but I know it's been at least 5 or 6 years. I'm down a clothing size and feeling really great. My most important toot is that I finally have control over my eating. No cravings, no (okay, VERY FEW) binges. It's been so long, I had forgotten how good it feels. Such a seemingly simple thing, but so powerful!

I'm down 50.5 pounds since August 11th. I didn't do a ton of measurements, but I do know I've lost 6 inches on my waist.

            Re: Toot your horn!

Well, my results are in my sig line, however, what isn't listed is how good my arms look now. My upper arms went from 17" at my top weight, to 13" now. Plus when I flex my lower arms, I can see muscles rippling, so cool. Oh, and sadly, I don't lift weights. I am a mesomorph, so these results are from regular work in my house (housework, painting, etc.) and ranch work (hefting hay, feed, etc.). Please, no one come in and tell me I didn't get these results from not "official lifting" (a gal did this to me once). I really don't think these muscles "just existed under the flab", as I didn't do all that much work until I moved here back in Feb.

I have to say that I am also proud of myself for eating a wide variety of veggies for the last several months. I am in love with winter squash right now, and it is super filling, so I don't have to eat much to get full. I am quite on target for Vitamin A!

              Re: Toot your horn!

              Great job everyone!!

I have successfully maintained a 40 pound weight loss for 5 years. I've successfully maintained a 5 year exercise program that started with walking 1.5 miles a day back in 2002. I started jogging November 1, 2003 .. barely a block at first; but on November 1, 2006, I will have been running for 3 FULL YEARS. Since January 1, 2005, I have logged over 2,654 running miles, including finishing a full 26.2 mile marathon at age 50!

I'll be running a 10k on Thanksgiving Day, a half-marathon on December 10th, my second full marathon on January 7, 2007, and another half-marathon on February 17, 2007.

Betty, were you a runner when you were much younger, or did a "runner's body" develop after you lost your weight and took up walking/running as exercise? Did you ever have a body like you have, say, when you were 20? Just curious

I was never a runner before, although I was an active child. As I got older, I got less active (like most people) and into my 30s and 40s, I was pretty much a couch potato. Didn't have a weight problem when I was young, but the weight came on as I got less active. I was thin at 20, but that was good genetics more than by design ... I ate all the junk foods but got away with it....... THEN REALITY HIT AT 30 & 40............. Thank heavens for Dr. Atkins who gave me the second chance to take charge of my health again! As they say, "I wish I had known then, what I know now...."

Thanks Betty, well, at least you can be sure that you have added several awesome (not mediocre) years to your life!

                      I've lost 75 lbs since January 2, 2006
                      I've gone from a size 22 to a size 12
I'll have to double check when I get home, but I think my inches lost is over 60"
I quit SMOKING, cold turkey. Quitting carbs was harder than quitting smoking!!
I no longer have neck pain and nightly headaches, I no longer have acid reflux, the nerve pain in my leg is dissipating, my mood swings are lessening--I think those that I still have are hormone related.
I started running...I have never been a runner in my LIFE.

THANK YOU DR. ATKINS and THANK YOU ADBB!!!

G-Mom, I'll do a bit of thread hijacking here too...but I just recently discovered winter squashes...and I'm in heaven. I agree that they are totally filling. I was very surprised. When I first thought was disappointment that 1/2 cup of squash mashed was such a "high" carb count...but that 1/2 cup with a fat and protein (like sausage) was INCREDIBLY filling.

Yeah, I was completely disappointed by the lack of fiber in squash! What is up with that? What exactly ARE those squash fibers made of then? There is no better taste though than squash with butter...yummmm! Honestly, if a person misses sweet potatoes, butternut squash has a similar flavor with less than half the carbs.
