okay anybody who belongs to any organization or has a kid who does knows how it goes they always want cookies or desserts for bake sales so since you are low carbing do you avoid temptation totally by saying NO or do you say yes and use other methods to insure no high carb sireens calling your name during the mixing cooking bagging and delivering of them do you use?

Re: baking for bake sales
me I cook stuff I don't like and use a dust mask to cover my mouth so I din't even taste the batter of my fingers. I just baked and burned 144 snickerdoodle cookies for the church cause I hate thiose cookies.
Since I was raised with cookies go with milk not having milk to drink in the house when cooking stuff helps me too.
and yes I made new unburned ones for th4e sale and tossed the burnt ones.Last edited by 2big4mysize; November 1, 2006, 07:57 PM.by the book atkinseer

Re: baking for bake sales
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I don't have any problems with temptation, to be honest. Not trying to be cavalier here, but I'm one of those folks who can sniff something and receive the same satisfaction as having had eaten it, but without the pejorative cephalic response.
I know that doesn't work for everyone. For someone who would be tempted to eat what was made, I would donate something store-bought or fresh from the bakery, and I'd take it immediately from the store to the person selling the item.

Re: baking for bake sales
I usually do something that isn't easy to sample. If I were to bake cookies, muffins etc. it would be too tempting. I usually do a cake or pie. You can't exactly take a piece of either without it being missed.
I don't like cake batter so this works for me.

I also don't have any issues with baking, I've baked cakes, cookies pies etc w/o issue so far. Though once in a while it can be hard not to lick icing off my fingers just out of habit.
Canned icing now smells horrific to me...Jen, 39, F

Re: baking for bake sales
When I was last able to visit both Mom and Dad I did all the cooking while I was there. To me, cooking for those I care about is a pleasure in itself, so in addition to the regular meals, I baked homemade bread and desserts, including pies and cakes. I really can't say why, but I was never tempted to cheat, even once. I do remember that the smell of the baking bread was wonderful, but I knew that I was doing it for someone else, not for me.
Of course, it was several months after that that I fell off the wagon, and fell hard, and it had nothing to do with any cooking or baking that I was doing!-Chris

Re: baking for bake sales
I bake for my family and for fundraisers. But I don't eat anything I bake....I just keep looking at my fat clothes and that's enough to deter me! Losing weight is a big pain in the you-know-what. There's no way I want to start at square one again!~Megs~

We're really lucky, we have a farm shop just across the field that sells fantastic home-made fairy cakes and huge apple pies, so I can buy from the farmers wife and pass them off as my own!!! hehe!!

FYI, my fellow Yanks, a "fairy cake" is just British English for a cupcake -- nothing more!Originally posted by 13_janeWe're really lucky, we have a farm shop just across the field that sells fantastic home-made fairy cakes and huge apple pies, so I can buy from the farmers wife and pass them off as my own!!! hehe!!
