It is always fun to hear names for things in other countries. I like "fairy cake". It sounds very whimsical.

I think you just have to really know yourself to determine if it's safe for you to undertake something like that. Personally, it's been a point of pride since day 1 that I've baked many things and NEVER even licked my fingers. When I'm through mixing something, I immediately fill the pan with soapy water and throw the beaters and utensils in to avoid any temptation.

If you might be tempted, you're better off not even going there. If people are going to buy and eat that cr*p, storebought isn't any worse than homemade in my book.

OK, this thread caught me by a little surprise - thinking it would containd Atkins-friendly recipes for things suitable for bake sales or even holiday gift goodies. Hopefully someone has a few to share, as there's positively no way I can make my traditional Toll House chocolate chip cookies for folks this year without succumbing to temptation.

I'd especially like anyone's recipe for whooshie fairy cake!

Try starting a Holiday baking/desert thread in the food forum, you should get alot of good recipes. You can also search the deserts forum as well.

Bo0nie check the holiday recipe topic in the low carb cooking school for some ideas.

the sugar free peanutbutter ones and the almond flour ones in the cooking section should be okay
check out sugarfree sheila site and the new site Linda has the topic on hers is in the cooking chat forum if you don't already have it.

I'm another one of those people who no longer have cravings for carbs. I can bake and sniff and be perfectly satisfied. My dh on the other hand has real problems. I caught him in the Halloween candy yesterday. (Three kids in the house, so it's still on the table.) Today my youngest is baking beer bread, so I'm going to whip up some sugar free pumpkin cheesecake to head him off before he eats the wrong thing.

                Re: baking for bake sales

I baked cookies for my students last weekend and it was torture--more because of the habits I have while cooking--always needing to check the dough or batter for taste, texture, etc. If I got ANY on my hands I really had to focus and wash hands with soap and water RIGHT AWAY. Before, it was such a habit to keep tasting the dough. I tried to pretend that the stuff was poisoned or I was allergic and that if I tasted any of it, even accidentally, it would be awful.

I didn't have a problem baking bread, though--I absolutely love the feel of the dough and the smell of the loaves baking. I can do bread anytime, no problems.

So it's the sweets that really make me go haywire--but ONLY if I make it myself! I am not even phased by store-bought "goodies" or even stuff that someone else made. It's hard to explain...but when I'm making it, it feels almost intimate, like I HAVE to taste it...it's a very personal thing to create food that someone else will eat. It's not the end product but the process that really kills me.

I would have a really hard time baking cookies right now. As I lose I think it will get easier. Right now I would have to be wearing a gag and have a clothespin on my nose so I wouldn't even smell them.

I know I couldn't make cookies. I'd end up with a belly full of raw cookie dough. I have no control over myself when I'm around raw cookie dough.

I was gonna say I wasn't sure if i could handle cookie dough either..then i remembered i made cookies last year at Christmas. The smell of the dough actually bothered me because it smelled too sweet. I was surprised, i could eat a whole batch of cookies before they even go into the oven LOL
