  • What meat do you traditionally eat on Holidays?

OK - I'm mainly referring to Christmas and other December Holidays - For your main protein source, what will be served with your big meal?
    Fish,
    eggs,
    poultry,
    pork,
    beef,
    specialty?
Or will you have a combination?
    Let us all know.

Well we used to have turkey and ham on Christmas day - my parents have decided that since we have turkey and ham on thanksgiving that our new tradition will be Standing Rib Roast for Christmas. (I LOVE that new tradition!) John and I have our own tradition of cheese fondue and Live Maine Lobster for New Years Eve! Man I can't wait for Christmas and New Years dinners!

2big turkeys are so expensive here i could never afford to buy 2 at the same time.

My last turkey was over $60 it was 20+lbs mind you.

I'm going to Buffalo next weekend and i plan on bringing a turkey home i've found out i can bring it over the border. last year i saw them there at super walmart for .97 a lb here they start at almost $2 and of course you can never find the right sized on in teh cheaper price. i usually end up paying at least 2.75/lb

It's usually a huge turkey and a spiral-cut honey baked ham, but if we're lucky, there will also be a little venison or duck.

I've been wanting to try turducken, though - since it looks so interesting on the internet.

Re: What meat do you traditionally eat on Holidays?

On Christmas Eve, we have a seafood stew...It was a paella/jamabalaya without the rice (Mom didn't realize she had no rice until it was too late. Dad like it anyway). Over the years, Mom tweaked it. So it's kind of evolved into a tomatoey-oniony seafood stew: cod, shrimp, mussels, whatever else lives in the sea.

On Christmas Day, we get together with the rest of the extended family and have a big potluck: turkey, ham, roast beef, etc.

Depends on which side of the family. My side (Irish) turkey and ham on Christmas, DW's side (Italian) fish on Christmas eve (my MIL does the seven fishes thing) and lamb on Christmas day.

Ham on Christmas Eve for me. I buy a quarter ham from HoneyBaked and have ham for snackin' through New Year's!

Then Christmas Day is all about my roommate doing the prime rib . . . mmmmmmmmm!!!! He is the master of all things beef. There are rarely any leftovers from the primus ribbus. Did I say mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!

We have ham and turkey for Thanksgiving.

We don't do a traditional Christmas dinner--the family is all over the place. However we do a BIG breakfast at my grandmother's house. For the last 6 or 7 years I've celebrated Christmas Eve with my Cuban neighbors so it's roast pork in mojo, black beans and rice, yucca, some kind of soup they do with pork, chicken, vegetables--whatever they have on hand goes in the pot. LOL Salad.

New Years--pig roast and Black Eyed Peas.

Chili for Chritmas Eve...we like to be musical during service

Ham or steak for Christmas...we like to change it up a bit every so often

New Years...I'm thinking a new tradition of steak/shrimp/ and black eyed peas
