Re: What meat do you traditionally eat on Holidays?

On my side of the family we enjoy turkey for thanksgiving and christmas with ham on new years day. On my husband's side they usually have turkey, roast and ham at all holidays. I think its too much to have all 3 meats but probably cause I wasn't raised that way.

Me too, turkey and ham all the way. Although I am thinking about a goose this year. Its been forever since I've cooked on and I remember loving it.

I've been wanting to try turducken, though - since it looks so interesting on the internet.

Hey, how is terducken? WHAT exactly is it? Is it a crossbreed mutant of turkey, duck, and game hen, or is it like a set of nesting dolls that you can eat?

Re: What meat do you traditionally eat on Holidays?

My absolute favorite, mainly because it's the only tradition we've had, is Christmas morning breakfast.

My dad always cooks up eggs with mushrooms, peppers, onions, swiss cheese, etc. and my mom cooks some bacon and toast and her specialty...fried sweetbreads!! Yumm!

I didn't know what sweetbreads were until I grew up, but I always liked them. Even finding out what they were has not turned me off of them. I look forward to that every Christmas morning.

Re: What meat do you traditionally eat on Holidays?

I love brined roast Turkey and a good sausage stuffing. It simply is not Thanksgiving without those two items. I can't believe I used not like Turkey because the other family members always used to cook it until it was dry as a bone and needed a pint of gravy to be palatable.

For Christmas, it is prime rib or a standing rib roast. It is nice sometimes to cook for a ton of people.

I've never had turducken, Juli, but it is like the nesting dolls. A deboned chicken is stuffed into a deboned duck, and then that is stuffed into a turkey, and the whole thing roasted. The fats from the duck are supposed to keep everything extremely moist. I've heard that it's quite delicious.

A former member here said that the turducken was disgusting, and she was pretty much of a gourmet. Now the idea of a boneless turkey sounds good to me - but you gotta leave the wishbone!

combination usually... turkey, ham (prosciutto), sausage (sometimes goose rather than turkey). Fish is traditional on Christmas Eve here (ok, it's not a meat, though still a protein!).
