Re: Anyone 'taking the day off' for Thanksgiving?

For me, there's no such thing as cheating for one day, then planning to return to Atkins the next day. Like MomToEli said, it's just self-delusion. All the times I've vowed to return to Atkins "the next day"...it just doesn't happen. It could be days or weeks (or more!!). "The next day" is always just that: the next day, not today, over and over.

There are lots of Thanksgiving dishes you can have that are Atkins friendly. If you're going someplace where someone else is cooking, you can bring some of your own dishes. There are also a low carb, sugar free pumpkin pie/pumpkin cheesecake recipes that are just divine. I know how hard it can be...but you might not want to do a "planned" cheat.

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Re: Anyone 'taking the day off' for Thanksgiving?

Hopefully you've gotten enough info here to choose wisely how you eat for the day.

      In a nutshell, here's my 2 cents (maybe 3):
I do plan to eat lots of turkey, greens, have a sugar free drink, and small serving of s/f pumpkin pie Mom made. I'll have it following a hearty batch of eggs & bacon for breakfast, too.

But in the past, I jumped right in and mad a pig out of myself, swearing it was just for the day.
Boy, did I buy that t-shirt! I felt MISERABLE soon after the meal, was bloated, gassy, felt sick, got the runs next day, and felt so HORRIBLE I postponed going back on the wagon until after New Year's!

OK (3rd cent) - you say you want to do induction right up to goal? That too is a recipe for failure because induction is only the first phase of doing Atkins. Before you get too close to goal, you go though a learning process which will better prepare you to eat after you reach goal in a way that will let you maintain that weight.

If you are 'on a diet', then rest assured that you will 'go off your diet'.
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

Not really...I plan on eating some turkey, some cauliflower, 1 or 2 deviled eggs and one, yes only one scoop of stuffing!!! Also, I am saying no to all desserts.

I plan on making a pig of myself, on the turkey, greens, and cauliflower. Then I will introduce myself to the sugar free pumpkin pie.

This will be the first year that I eat reasonably during Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to it.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
