  • Induction weight gain?

    11 days and counting.
    NO CHEATING, except a little soy milk..no going to 1/2 & 1/2
Used a protien shake 1x a day with lower calaries than the atkins shake.
    Carbs under 20 around 15
    not over eating at all
    yet eating enough!
Went from 90% carbs..acid reflux and severe "hershey squirts" to much better already
So why and the "Helkkkkkkk" would I gain 2 1/2 pounds..HELP!

You're not near your TOM, are you?

Soy milk isn't allowed on induction as far as I know, and protein shakes have been shown to stall some people or otherwise affect their weight loss. Do you have the book? That spells out pretty clearly what you can't and can't have.

      Re: Induction weight gain?

Ellen, without knowing your stats (current weight etc) it is extremely hard to figure this out. Also, how about a few days worth of menus!
FEAR not! We will figure this out!
Are you female? Time for Tom?
Are you working out? Did you just start?
      How is your water consumption?
      On any meds?

How much fat does this shake mix contain? Atkins is high fat diet, not a high protein one. In fact, Dr. Atkins wrote that excess dietary protein is converted to glucose (sugar) which is either used for energy or stored as glycogen, and eventually as fat. Protein should only comprise about 30% of our total daily caloric intake. During Induction, fat should comprise about 65% of the total daily caloric intake.

                  Re: Induction weight gain?

I have no time a month! finally
                  shake has 2g of fat!
Good tip on that site, I will check it out Thanks
I expect that I do not have enough fat going on, the fish oil caps help though!
Did the protien as a instant meal, don't always have time to cook or plan.
                  sometimes I am just lazy!
I may be on induction for a month at this rate and on the 31st day, zowie wowie
                  15 lbs gone!

                    Re: Induction weight gain?

So the shake has about 110 calories, 73 % of it comes from protein, 16% from fat, and 11% from carbs.

Also, if you haven't done so, you should take measurements of yourself. Dr. ATkins wrote that the loss of inches represented the fat empyting from your cells.

                        16% fat...how?
                        11% carbs?
I certainly did not come up with that
but then perhaps I don't know how to figure thing the way that you do!
Could raise the fat content by using 1/2 & 1/2
                        significantly!

                          Re: Induction weight gain?

1/2 and 1/2 isn't allowed on induction--but heavy cream is.

I would say skip the protein shake altogether. It's a better idea to eat whole foods/natural foods than "frankenfoods" like shakes and bars. Some of the ingredients usually found in that type of stuff is not induction legal. If you're in a rush, eat hardboiled eggs, pepperoni, cheese sticks, celery, beef jerky, etc. These foods are much more satisfying and actually cheaper than a shake. Lots of people complain about shakes stalling them. Granted, this isn't an atkins shake, but with that huge dose of protein, it's almost surely turning to glucose in your body, then turning to fat.

Ellen go to fitday and start entering in your food...like Megs said fat should be 65%, carbs 5%, and protein 30%.

Check out the recipes section if you need easy meals or on-the-go meals. A lot of stuff can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for when you need it.
