    Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

Well, I know that she's not eating enough points for Weight Watchers per her meals.. which means not enough calories... not enough food for South Beach... Most other diets are done based on caloric consumption which she would be below for any of them...

      Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

Ok, one more to jump on the band wagon. You need to eat more!

Get your fat/prot/carb percentages to around 65/30/5. Also, I think your BMR is probably around 1800 calories. I know you shouldn't pay attention to calories so much during induction, but that comment mainly means don't worry about the fact you're eating quite afew calories and not too few! I imagine your calorie intake is only around 1000 or so. This is quite low and as other stated, your body may be going into starvation mode and not burning fat. You need to train your body to use fat as fuel. So eat more fat so it's available to use.

Also, why turkey bacon? If you like the real stuff, use it...it's a good source of fat and protein.

Yeah, I just entered a typical day of your menu into Fitday and it was 616 calories with a 49%/44%/6% breakdown. I always found that eating slightly over my BMR made me lose faster than eating fewer calories. If you need some ideas of how much you can eat, look at my fitday, but keep in mind I am in maintenance/OWL.

      We're all here to help!

        Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

The problem with not eating enough is that it puts your body into starvation mode and it will store fat so that it can survive. Which means nw weight loss and possible gain. I ate a 3egg omelet with 1 oz cheese and onions for breakfast and for lunch i had a cheesburger dry and no bun yes lettuce yes tomatoe yes onion yes pickle from carls jr and a small side salad with ranch. For dinner i ate 8 oz steak or any meat with green beans and i loss 14 lbs the first two weeks. So maybe try some more meat. Good Luck.

MORE meat isn't the answer (you're already eating high-protein it seems), DIFFERENT meat IS. Try beef or other meat that has a higher fat content. By all means, switch to pork bacon! Cook it in the oven or the microwave if you don't like it swimming in fat (I don't, and I cook it on parchment paper, let it drain--not so greasy, and I'm still getting the fat from the bacon.) If you really must have your turkey bacon, cook it in oil or top it with butter. The key here is higher fat. Add mayo to your tuna, ranch dressing to your salad, sour cream to your celery. FAT FAT FAT is what you need!

higgies is the man with the fitday account!

Anyhow, 616 calories is very low. A rough estimate of what your daily calories should be is to add a 0 to your weight in pounds. Therefore if you weigh 120 pounds, your calories should be around 1200. 616 calories would be what a 10 year old should eat daily.

As I suspected you are eating too much protein. Atkins is a high fat diet. Protein makes up about 30% of our daily calories. Too much protein isn't good because excess protein is converted to glucose, which is used immediately for energy. Any excess of that will be stored as fat. If your total calories are too low, you might be using all of your food as energy to keep your body going, which is why you aren't losing weight.

It takes very little added fat to make your diet high fat. All you need is about a tablespoon or two of added fat (olive oil salad dressing, mayonnaise, butter). It is especially important to add fat if you eat lean meats, like lean cuts of poultry or fish. Venison and buffalo are relatively lean meats.

I Agree With The Others. I Just Started The Induction Phase This Last Tuesday. Already I Have Lost 5 Lbs. The Whole Point In This Diet Is Too Enjoy The "fats" A Bit More.
Tell Me Honestly...do You Really Enjoy Eating Turkey Bacon? I Know It Seems Sinful While Your Eating It But It Truly Does Work. How About Walking? If I Add Just Half An Hour Of Walking A Day, Results Are Quicker For Me. I Don't Think You're Eating Enough Either. With What I Read, I'd Be Starving If I Were You?

Good Luck Orann! I notice myself that when I eat more fat I lose more too. As a side note, have you done a Ketosis strip test? I know these are not the be all end all, but it is nice to see it working. Again, I notice that when I eat more fat my stick is REALLY dark purple - meaning I'm passing more ketones/fat.

I just came in from the grocery store - picked up a roast to cook and two packages of chicken, and a couple of cans of tuna. Turkey bacon ? I'm not sure why I got hooked on it. I'm not really hungry ... I sure didn't realize that my calorie counts would be that low !

Thanks CaliGurl! I am a little hooked on Fitday, as you can tell I'm kind of obsessive about it, but I think that or some other journaling method is an incredible tool in your eating plan.

You can absolutely eat with this WOL, so find all the great things you enjoy! Just remember some things...I have added foods in as I went through OWL (didn't get to raise my carbs much) and I am a man and heavier so my caloric intake may be higher.

                            Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

My first response to seeing your menu was "needs more fat... way more fat."

If quoting from DANDR is okay, here's a relevant section from page 127 of induction (what to eat during induction):

                            Fats and Oils
Many fats, especially certain oils, are essential to good nutrition. Olive oil is particularly valuable. All other vegetable oils are allowede, the best being canola, walnut, soybean, grapeseed, sesame, sunflower and safflower oils, especially if they are labeled "cold-pressed" or "expeller-pressed." Do not cook polyunsaturated oils, such as corn, soybean and sunflower oil, at high temperatures or allow to brown or smoks.

Butter is allowed. Margarine should be avoided, not because of its carbohydrate content, but because it is usually made of trans fats (hydrogenated oils), which are a serious health hazard. (Some non-hydrogenated margarines are available in health food stores.)

You need not remove th skin and fat from meat or fowl. Salmon and other cold-water fish are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids.

I cannot stress strongly enough that trying to do a low-fat version of Atkins will interfere with fat burning and derail your weight loss.
                            Best of luck,

Just my 2 cents: if you are not sure about what fitday states as the amounts, it might be they used other brands, what you can always do is use the new custom food possibility and put the information of the package in so you are sure to use the right information for what YOU are eating.
I hope this starts working for you Orann!
