65% is for induction. I believe that it gets lower as carbs get higher through OWL since your protein percentage stays at 30%.

That's correct, but if you are doing extended induction (which it sounds like she is) then you'd keep that percentage. Even in OWL, bumbing your carb intake by 5g for each rung a few times a week isn't going to bump your percentages up drastically. 50% is typical for maintenance.

Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

Just remember it takes very little fat to change those percentages. I posted a sticky thread in the 14 Day Induction forum about a year ago that explains it. There's another sticky about fat intake in the OWL forum that explains what happens during OWL (and Pre-Maintenance).

Don't gorge on protein. As tempting as it may sound, eating too much protein can derail your weight loss because protein is converted into glucose by your body. Whatever glucose you don't use for energy and daily life activities will be stored as glycogen and fat.

The vegetables are equally important to this WOE as fat. So don't think that eating the veggies with the lowest amount of carbs will aid your weight loss. Vegetables have fiber, vitamins and minerals---all of these things aid in general health and in your weight loss. It's been the experience of many On-Going Weight Loss Phase folks that eating vegetables (especially the non-lettuce ones) aids their weight loss.

Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

Hi Orann - Just my two bits... I have Hashimoto's disease (which is a thyroid disorder). Before Atkins, I could eat in the 800 calorie range and maintain. Lose? NO WAY. With Atkins, if I eat below 1200 calories appx. I don't lose. I lose GREAT between 1200 - 1600 with one day a week of over 2,000 calories. Try to get your calories up there if you can - I think you'll find that if you are eating 5 times a day (every 3 hours or so - 3 meals and 2 snacks) that this will be easy to do and the frequent eating plus the extra calories will fire up your metabolism!

As an extra, any weight training you do that adds some muscle to your body will make your metabolism burn at an even higher rate - even while you are sleeping!

You've had great advice so far - so I'm just seconding everyone else's opinion!

I am feeling better now - the tea kettle is on, I've got bacon cooking and in a few minutes will have deviled eggs.
I am so thankful to have this board where I can rant and rave when I'm down and jump up and down with success as it comes ... this makes this change in eating and living a whole lot easier and a lot more enjoyable !

Re: 2 Months & NOT LOSING !!!

You sound like me the very first time I did Atkins. I gained a few pounds! The second time I did it I ate whole foods only like chicken, steak, fish, sea food, butter, veggies etc... I lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks! I also suspected Candida, so I stayed away from vinegar, processed foods and splenda. This worked very well for me. I didnt exercise either because I had a torn ACL. Stay with it and make some changes and it will work for you too.

I am continuing to add more food in - but no loss yet. My pilates equipment has been shipped so I am hopeful that it will arrive this week and the added exercise will kick-start the loss.
I am trying not to be discouraged with this. I see the doctor in the morning and hopefully will have a better idea of the digestive thing. I know he wants me on enzymes and the tests tomorrow will identify what I am having problems with.
I so appreciate the support that you have all given me.

Hey Orann! I see you're still struggling a little. The website that Lyssie was referring to a few post earlier is http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ It's a site that will tell you exactly how many calories you need to consume daily to maintain, and also to lose. People have said if you eat too little you will not lose weight, and this is correct. If you do some reading on the bmi site, the logic will become clearer for you! Good luck with the doctor tomorrow.
