Re: Check in & Reporting Thread for All NEW YEARS Atkineers!

Hi there. Male 6'0" 29 years old. I started induction Jan. 1/ 07. It is my second time around. Last time was in 2004, when I started Jan. 1/ 04 and I sucessfully lost 90 lbs. in 9 months, and was down to a healthy weight. After that, I moved and changed jobs and it totally threw me off my routine. Slowly but surely I started gaining the weight back by making bad choices here and there. By Christmas of 06' I had put back about 75% of the weight I had lost. Very depressing to say the least.
I've decided to give this another try and give it my all. One thing that gets to me is none of my family or friends seem to suport this WOE. They think its dangerous and unhealthy despite my best efforts to educate and explain otherwise. Nevertheless, I'm doing it.
Since day 1 I've been very strict staying between 15-20 net carbs, 80-100oz water and between 1800-2400 calories depending on exercise which is 4-5 days a week. Also my percentages on fit day have been almost bang on where they should be everyday. I'm patient in results and didn't weight myself for the first week. Now is the 14th day of my induction and I've only lost 2 pounds. The fact that my weight is down at all is still good and I'm willing to keep going. Last time around I lost 15 lbs after 14 days and I skipped induction all together and went right into owl first day. So it's a bit frustrating when your hoping for simliar or even better results. But the worst is, my best friend started the same day but doing a low calorie/ low fat diet and hasn't exercised at all since and has dropped 9 lbs. Now their saying, look, I told you it wouldn't work, your eating too many fatty foods, blah blah blah blah blah.... you know the rest! Trying to convince me to go low fat/ low calorie. I really like this diet cause I feel good and healthy when I'm on it. Never bloated or tired or have heartburn. I feel satisfied and not starving either. So though I'm questioning my journey, I really want to stay on it.
I guess I'm looking for a little support or pep tallk. These forums are great. I'm a major lurker but I read everyday to keep me motivated . I find fitday.com really keeps me focused as well. Please help me out and maybe lend some advice. Thanks!

Re: Check in & Reporting Thread for All NEW YEARS Atkineers!

Hi Gunner!! Glad to "meet" you! So glad you posted and told your story.

Well, sounds like you know the drill and are doing a GREAT job! I think that if you hang in there you are going to get there. Of course it will not be overnight but you ARE Doing it a 1lb. at a time.

I was wondering if you took your measurements before you started induction? As you may recall from before, sometimes even if the scale does not move at all you can have major changes going on. ( I can attest to that myself )

The other thing is that since you have done this before, from what I have read here, it will be a bit slower going the second time around! I belive the second time around club has a ton of stickies to read with advice and encouragement:

          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=82

As for your family, I know it is much more difficult to do without their support, but just stick to your guns. This has been successful for you before, do you remember how much better you felt? They really can never know that feeling unless they have walked in your shoes. YOU are doing this, doing it correctly which from what I have seen here is doing it SAFELY!

Please keep posting and updating, I think that is the best support you will get. Also, starting a journal over in the Journal Chats is a great way to keep track of your progress and get feedback. (I'm thinking of starting one myself!)

Well, I hope this has been a moderately decent pep talk!!

          Stella

Re: Check in & Reporting Thread for All NEW YEARS Atkineers!

You know it's funny you mentioned about the mesurments. No I didn't measure, (my bad) but when I put on my wool coat this morning, it was much more loose then it was at Christmas time. So that's a positive thing. Also I'm not sure how fast one puts on lean muscle, but I've been hitting the weights hard, so I'm hoping that's a factor as well. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, advice and support.

Hi, all. As several of you near the end of your induction period, I want to encourage you to consider starting to move up the OWL rungs. You'll enjoy the additional food options it gives you, and it's a much more realistic way to learn to "live Atkins" for the long term.

AND, don't assume that if you stay on induction you'll lose more. I wrongly assumed that less carbs would = more weight loss. Not true for me (and for many others I've talked with). I actually lost MORE once I started moving up the rungs. So, check out the OWL forum and strongly consider moving up when it's time.

You are all doing great -- keep up the hard work!

What she said! This is my 2nd time ...and I KNOW at least part of the reason that I needed a 2nd time is that I stayed on induction too long and pretty much reached my goal (+2 lbs) LONG before I had worked my way through OWL and pre-maintenance properly. Trust me, maintaining is just as difficult ~ if not more so ~ than losing. If we don't take the time to work through OWL, we are really cheating ourselves out of the most wonderful learning tool this WOE has to offer. I didn't restart until 1/2, so tomorrow is day 14 for me - but Tuesday morning, I'm on the OWL train for sure!
