  • How often do you weigh yourself?

I am finding close to impossible to not get on the scale everyday...you know...after the morning pee (LOL). I just want to know how often is good...and I should know better than to weigh in the day after I have soy sauce (like this morning), but I do it anyways and then freak out the rest of the day! What is everyone else doing? I can stick to taking measurements every 2 weeks, but weighing in????

Twice a day. For my morning weight i don't spaz if it's off if I've had too much salt or a really intense workout. For my evening weight, I'm fine as long as it's within about 3-4 pounds of the morning weight. Yes, I have issues.

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

Well up to a week ago I weighed a few times a day but it gets me upset so I have now made it my goal to only weigh every Monday. It is so hard every time I go into the bathroom I want to jump on it but so far this week I have not! Im so proud of my self!

I think its different for everyone, weighing every day motivates some where it can depress others so what ever works for you!!

I usually weigh daily, first thing in the morning also. It reminds me of what I'm working for and helps to motivate me. I DO keep in mind though that weight fluctuates. Some days it's discouraging instead of motivating, but I don't obsess over it. If it bothers you, I would suggest putting your scale away and setting a day to weigh. I'd rather wonder about it than be discouraged daily.

I am addicted to the scales! I weigh myself 7-8 times a day..ugh...I have 2 scales and one keeps going down but the other stays around the same weight and it is drivng me nuts to the point that I am considering buying a 3rd scale! Scales are bad lol.

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

I weigh once a week and it's pretty random. It has to do with oppurtunity;I don't have a scale so I can only weigh myself on other peoples scales (like the Drs' or a friends'). Sometimes I'll go as long as two weeks without weighing myself. In past weight loss attempts I have weighed too frequently and I find that it was just a constant reminder that I was "dieting". The usual anxiety I associate with "dieting" is nearly elimininated because I am not obsessed with any specific numbers. I try to accept that it will take time and all I can do in this moment is eat by the rules, move my body, and trust that it works. I feel free and I like that there is always a big loss if I wait that long too!

Be kind to yourselves and ditch those scales!

Britt, that's fruity - I know, I used to do the same exact thing. Only, when I did it, I would obsess enough where I would stop eating until it would go down to at least the weight it was that morning...

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

                  Okay guys. Wake up call.

The Scale is not your friend. It's like an obsession. (Sound familiar...like maybe the way you used to eat.....hmmmmmm)

Weigh in 1 time a week. Pick that particular day, say Monday morning and weigh.

Simple. Don't make us come over and steal your batteries out of the scale.

                  We'll do it. We're everywhere.

Okay .....that's just plain creepy. Sorry. haha - lol

Try weighing once a week, fight the need to fight your scale, you may even be pleased to see the weight loss look even better after 7 days!

                  Have a great day!!!

I don't have a scale in my house - and never will. I go out to the doctors once a week (its just up the road a few miles) and weigh in.

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

I'm a recovering scale addict. I used to be a 7 or 8 times a day person. When I started induction I vowed to not weigh until the two weeks were up and actually waited until the 17th day. Now I'm trying to hold it to once a week. But I don't know if I can do that for long!

(I've sorta transferred my addiction to ketostix now.. lol! Love that purple!)

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

Scooter, perhaps you should read the article that was on MSN a couple months ago that said that the scale can actually help people by weighing once a day instead of avoiding it, since they then either stay motivated to keep it up, and realize if they're starting to gain weight before they get too far gone.

Weighing is not an obsession. I like seeing that it doesn't say I weigh over 200 pounds, it's a great incentive for me that I get on a regular basis.

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

Sorry Lyssie, but I agree with Scooter. Weighing 7 times a day seems excessive and addictive...but, really, so does weighing everyday! I don't know why people torture themselves, when so many things can make weight fluctuate. And if there are people who weigh that many times a day, even though they KNOW that what they're seeing isn't a true weight, why the heck are they even weighing??? It just seems like a behavior that's borderline obsessive/compulsive.

I've gotten to the point where I almost forget to weigh--I don't even think about it until the night before, or when I wake up on weigh day. And actually I think that scale-free month was the best thing I ever did!

But, to each his own, I suppose. If you swear that weighing everyday will keep you motivated, then go right ahead.

I like to weigh often to keep me accountable. I don't always weigh everyday though. If you can weigh everyday and not obsess about it that's good. If you find that you are obsessing about it too much, maybe put the scale away so that it's not so convenient. I tend to forget to take my measurements because my measuring tape is always put away - out of sight out of mind.

Re: How often do you weigh yourself?

Everybody is different with regards to how often they should weigh!!!

I love weighing every day, several times a day. It's great motivation when the number goes down, and it's great information when it stays the same or goes up. It's a tool for me. I don't cry if I gain a pound; I sit down and analyze (with the help of my other favorite tool, Fitday) why the scale went up. Why wait a week to find out if a new food I've introduced is causing problems, when I can find out that day or the next??? I gained 15 pounds because I stayed OFF the scale for so long, knowing I was eating poorly and refusing to confront it. I will weigh every day for the rest of my life if it helps me prevent that.

Would I suggest that everyone weigh themselves every day? NEVER!!

And here's a classic example. My sister-in-law is just finishing 2 weeks on atkins, her first diet ever. She lost 5.5 pounds up till Saturday. Monday she was up 2 pounds. She was crying when she told me. After reviewing her diet and ketostix with her, it was pretty obvious that it was water retention due to the salty foods she had eaten. She could still hardly handle the idea of gaining any weight, so I told her to stay off the scales till at least Friday. Anyone who is that sensitive to the scales had better not get on it often. But they had better have other good tools for determining whether or not foods cause them problems. (The other major sign I've noticed with a food that causes a stall in weight loss for me is if I feel hungry shortly after eating it.)

                              Happy weighing...or not!
